EXECUTIVE SUMMRY

Electricity has become an integral part of our everyday life and we better
understand its importance in our life during a few minutes of power outages. In
recent times, with the rapid growth of industries and commercial space, we are
witnessing an exponential increase in the number of electrical accidents. The
accidents not only cause loss of business but also cause a loss of life, brand
image, business continuity and loss of confidence among the employees in
workplace. It is high time to have Electrical Safety Audit at regular intervals to
check the status of electrical systems.

An Electrical Safety Audit (ESA) is a systematic approach to evaluate potential

hazards and to recommend suggestions for improvement. It is an important tool
for identifying areas of risks, hazards and potential accidents in plants,
deterioration of standards, for determining actions to minimize hazards.

OBJECTIVE OF ELECTRICAL AUDIT

The primary objective of Electrical Audit is to review the continuation and safe operation of
the Aviation Fueling Station, Jaipur with respect to all Electrical equipment and also to
identify areas necessitating rectification action or other appropriate measures.
This audit would cover major areas of Electrical system and verify/indicate the details of
Audit findings and recommendations for rectification and corrective action.

Electrical Safety Audit helps in identifying:

 Electrical hazards to minimize the risk of accidents,

 Areas of risk or vulnerability in electrical systems and installations,

 Ensuring longevity of expensive electronic equipment like computers and

other machines,

 Development of a dynamic record of safety performance,

 Creation of positive cycle of safety improvement,

 Ensuring compliance with Regulatory and industrial safety related best

practices.

SCOPE OF WORK : Inspection of Electrical Equipment as per OISD Standard 235 , IE Rules
and as per Petroleum Rules on the following equipments :-

SURVEY AND EXAMINATION :

The Survey covered the examination and inspection of the entire electrical installation
giving particular stress on the following aspects.

a) Perfect and soundness of all installed electrical equipment as per relevant Indian
Standard IS 2148-1980/1981 and as per OISD Standards.

b) Routine Checking of equipments as per Preventive Maintenance Schedule to insuring

the maintaining of Flameproof condition of the equipments used

c) Installation and cable entry arrangement taken up

d) The possibility of any arcs and sparks at any of the electrical apparatus contained
inside the flameproof enclosure during normal operation as in the instance of a
switch or push button JB or terminal box etc. due to internal faults in the electrical
apparatus.

e) Necessary recommendations to substantially improve the safety of the entire AFS.



Recommendations :-

1. Main electrical MCB DB of ADMN Building is very congested and wire are criss cross
and working space is very less so new Vertical type DB need to provide for proper
working space and safe operation.

2. Lighting system to be replaced with energy efficient lights like LED. Specially for High
Mast Lighting .

3. ELCB Provided in Building lighting DB but not working /Tripping from End point
,earthing need to connect up to end point of every equipment and socket to insure
proper working of ELCB,s.

4. Some cable are laying loose in Underground cable trenches ,which need to lay
through cable trays and proper dressing.

5. Unused gearboxes & cables from Pole lights need to Isolate/disconnect and removed
from existing position.

6. Flameproof condition of pump motor for Pump no-1 & 2 is not up to mark so
replacement of new motor is suggested .

7. Two separate Earth pit need to provide for Lightning arrestor for Solar system.

Earthing

Earthing is the provision of a safe path of electrical current to ground, in order to

protect structures,
plant and equipment from the effects of stray electrical current, and
electrostatics discharge.

Earth Electrode

A metal plate, pipe or other conductor embedded in the soil that makes a direct
contact to the general mass of the earth.

Earth Connection

A connection to the general mass of earth by means of an earth electrode. An

object is said to be Earthed when it is Electrically Connection to an earth
electrode and a conductor is said to be ‘Solidly Earthed’ when it is electrically
connected to earth electrode without a fuse, switch, circuit-breaker,
resistance or impedance in the earth connection.
