Read the NYC Schools Guidebook Learn more about the New York City Departments of Education’s
initiatives to support Strong Schools and Strong Communities across the city. This Guide was created
for parents like you who are seeking the most current information to enable you to best advocate
for your child. Whether you have a child in Pre-K or preparing for college, you can find information
on deadlines and requirements at every level. Find out who’s who at your child’s school, how to talk
to your child’s teachers, what student achievement looks like, policies that impact you and your
child, the school calendar and information about enrollment, transportation and programs across
all grades.

Visit myschoolapps and submit a Family Income Inquiry Form today! Breakfast and lunch is served
at no charge to all families, however we need your help to make this program a success. All
parents, regardless of income, must still complete a School Meals Form so that our schools get
access to federal funding for this program and others.
Families can view their child’s ELA & Math results on their NYC Schools Account at
https://mystudent.nyc/. If you do not have access, please contact your school’s parent
coordinator.
For all of us at the NYC Department of Education (DOE), safety is of the utmost importance when it
comes to our public schools and the 1.1 million students we serve. This is why every City school
has readiness plans in place to address various school-related emergencies as they arise. We want
all City students to know that they, too, play a huge role in protecting their schools. What role?
Simple: “If you know something, say something.” Students: if you are aware of a threat, don’t keep
it to yourself—find help. Tell a trusted adult. Call 311 (or 911 for immediate emergencies). Know of
an ongoing bullying and/or harassment occurring at your school? Use our bullying report form and
help end it. Let’s work together to ensure everyone feels secure, supported, and respected in City
public schools. On behalf of the DOE, we thank the New York Police Department, our teachers
and administrators, and our vigilant students for all that they do to keep our schools safe.
