A.Y. 2019-2020

LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL MATHEMATICS

CONTENT STANDARDS The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of Simple Interest.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS The learner is able to apply the concepts of simple interest to formulate and solve
real-life problems with precision and accuracy.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

(a) manipulate the simple interest formulas to solve for different variables;
(b) solve simple interest in real life situations; and
(c) appreciate the importance of one-to-one functions in real life situations.

SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Simple Interest

Subtopic: FINDING PRINCIPAL, RATE, AND TIME
Time frame: 1 hour
Materials: ppt, calculator, books, ruler
Reference: General Mathematics (DepEd)
Mathematics of Investment

PROCEDURE

A. Daily Activity

- Prayer
- Checking of Attendance
- Checking of Preparation

B. Motivation

Video Presentation.

C. Lesson Proper

(1) From the motivation, recap the basic concepts of simple interest.
(2) Discuss when simple interest might be used and explain that it is a very simple way to calculate
interest and mention that banks and other lending institutions usually use compound interest
which will be discussed later.
(3) Recapitulation of the three elements involved in simple interest – principal, rate and time.
(4) Work through the given example in the video presentation.
(5) Present a problem with a variable other than interest – ask the class to think of ways to solve.
() Discuss the Simple Interest Formula – finding the principal, rate and time.
(7) Work through the examples.
(8) Group Activity – Divide the class into five groups. Let the groups answer the given problem.
(9) Presentation of their output.
(10) Checking of their respective answers.

D. Generalization

Ask students to give a summary of their understanding of the concept of Simple Interest.
EVALUATION

- Group Activity

- Recitation

ASSIGNMENT

(1) Problem Posing for Simple Interest – Finding the principal, rate and time.
