KABAYAN IS A WISE BOY

Kabayan is one of many folktale in the world. Kabayan is came from West Java. He has many
story and now, we will perform a Drama which are fixed with least of three story.

Narrator : In the afternoon, when Kabayan was sit in the Bamboo’s chair, his father asked to
him about his attitude.
Abah : Hey Kabayan what happened with you? I often see you daydreamed?
Kabayan : Don’t worry be happy Abah. I just dreaming about Nyi Iteung.
Abah : What? Nyi Iteung? Please Kabayan, don’t dream to far!
Kabayan : Abah don’t say like that! I love her so much.
Abah : Ah I don’t believe what you say!
And then Kabayan’s father leave him alone.

In the Nyi Iteung house.

Narrator : Now Nyi Iteung was 19 years old. Her mother force her to get married soon. But
she still confused to choice the best man who will to be her husband.
Ambu : Eleuh Nyai! When you will choice the best man to be your husband?
Nyi Iteung : Alah Ambu! I still happy with my status.
Ambu : But you are to old. You must having a man for keeping you. Abah and Ambu
want to have a grandson.
Nyi Iteung : I fell confused to choice one of them Ambu. Can you help me?

Narrator : Suddenly when Nyi Iteung and Ambu are talking about the best man, Kabayan
came with his cow. Nyi Iteung was sock and asked what he mean.
Kabayan : Nyi Iteung!!! Nyi Iteung!!! Come here please!
Nyi Iteung : Eleuh Kabayan! What is that?
Kabayan : That is for you Nyai. Will you marry me?
Nyi Iteung : Eleuh eleuh … whose the cow?
Kabayan : (smile and not say anything)

Narrator : In the back yard, Kabayan’s father was confused because his cow was lost. And
he try to asked to Ambu.
Ambu : Eh si Abah. What happen Abah?
Abah : My cow was lost. Do you find that?
Ambu : Hmmm.. wait! Wait! I think your cow was bought by Kabayan.
Abah : Ya Allah budak eta. Where is Kabayan now?
Ambu : It’s better for you, to look into front of my house.
Abah : Ok! Thank you so much Ambu.

In the front of Nyi Iteung house.

Abah : Heh Kabayan! Whose is it?
Kabayan : (just smile)
Nyi Iteung : Hmm.. kabayan please tell me whose is it?
Kabayan : It’s yours. (kabayan give the cow to his father.)
Ambu : What are you doing Kabayan?
Kabayan : I want to marry with your daughter. Do you agree?
Ambu : Ih Nyi Iteung how about you?
Nyi Iteung : Kabayan are you sure to marry with me?
Kabayan : Yes! Please Nyai.
Abah : Nyi Iteung, before you agree with my son idea, you must know if we not rich,
Kabayan is lazy boy and you also know if my son is not to handsome.
Nyi Iteung : Don’t afraid abah! I didn’t thinking about it.
Kabayan : Stop! Don’t talk to much! So, will you marry me?
Nyi Iteung : Hmmm. I’m so sorry Kabayan. I can’t … I can not rejected your idea. I Love you
too.

Narrator : And then Kabayan and Nyi Iteung was married. But after that, the real problem
turn up. Kabayan still be the lazy man the work just eat and sleep.
Ambu : You are a stupid girl. Many boy rich and handsome want to marry you, but you
not like one of them. And you choice Kabayan to be your husband. Do you know about
Kabayan attitude? He is a lazy man Iteung! I don’t like it.
Nyi Iteung : I know Ambu. But I just love him so much. He is honest and not arrogant. Many
boy who rich but he is arrogant Ambu. I don’t like it. I promise I will make him into diligent
man!

The day after.

Nyi Iteung: Akang, I was so confused. Ambu and Abah always angry to me. They think if I
wrong to choice you want to be my husband. Come on dear! Prove to all people if you not lazy
boy!
Kabayan : Nyai, this is my self just the way I am. Whatever he or she say. If you didn’t like
me like they hmmm.. it is up to you.
Nyi Iteung : Ok I understand. But can you explain to they if you are not a lazy man. You also
have a kind attitude?”
Kabayan : Ok! I will show it.

Narrator : Sunday, Ambu ordered Kabayan to sell chicken to the market. The result
of selling chicken will be purchasedrice for lunch. Because Kabayan didn’t want to called lazy
man, so he agree to do Ambu’s ordered. But on the way when he will back to home, he met
with the beggar and he gave the result of selling chicken also his rice to the beggar.
Ambu : What are you doing Kabayan?
Kabayan : Nothing.
Ambu : Can you help me now?
Kabayan : What’s up Ambu? I will help you.
Ambu : Kabayan please go to market and sell this chicken. And then you buy some rice
for lunch. Ok!
Kabayan : Ok Ambu. It is an easy job.

In the market.
Kabayan : Hallo Sir.
Buyer : Hallo. Can I help you?
Kabayan : Hmm .. I have a chicken. Will you buy it? Please, I haven’t much money to buy
some rice for lunch today with my family.
Buyer : Can I see it?
Kabayan : (give the chicken to Buyer)
Buyer : How much it is?
Kabayan : How about Rp. 50.000-,?
Buyer : It’s so expensive. How about Rp. 30.000-, ?
Kabayan : No. thanks Sir. Please Rp. 50.000? I know you have some money. You are rich
boy. Please help me. Just Rp. 50.000 I can lunch with my family. What do you fell if you have
some fate with me?
Buyer : Stop don’t talk again. Ok I will buy it. Just Rp. 50.000?
Kabayan : Yes.
Buyer : It is for you. (give money to Kabayan.)
Kabayan : Thank you so much. Hmm I can get some rice for lunch today.
Buyer : Where are you go now?
Kabayan : I will go to the rice shop. Do you know where is it?
Buyer : I don’t know. (leave Kabayan lonely)

In the rice shop.

Kabayan : Sir, I need some rice for lunch today. What a rice can I buy Sir?
Seller : How much you want to buy?
Kabayan : How about 3 kg? How much I pay to you?
Seller : Rp. 24.000 .
Kabayan : Ok. I will buy it. Please Sir.

Narrator : After Kabayan get some rice, he want to back to his house. But on the way, he met
with the beggar and he fell pity to the beggar.
Kabayan : Hi, what are you doing? Have you had lunch today?
Beggar 1 : (just shook his head)
Kabayan : Why? Do you fell hungry?
Beggar 1 : Yes of course. But I haven’t some money to buy something for eating today.
Kabayan : (fell pity and give his rice to the beggar.)
Beggar : It is for me? Are you sure?
Kabayan : Yes. You can cook it at your home. I will buy rice again with my money.
Beggar : Thank you so much a young man.
Kabayan : You are welcome. Ok bye ..

Narrator : Kabayan continue the journey. But on the way, he met with an old woman which is
cooking a stone. And Kabayan fell confused when he saw it.
Kabayan : Hellow what are you doing? Are you crazy? Why you cook a stone? It can not to
eat Mam. You know if stone is hard?
Old woman : I know. But I fell hungry. Until three days, is still not find food to eat. And also
I didn’t have some money to buy it.
Kabayan : Ok. I can help you. But… I need it too. I can get scolded if I didn’t bring some
money.
Old woman : Please help me. If you help me, I promise God will reward it.
Kabayan : Ok. It is for you. (give old woman some money.) Bye… I will go to home.

At home.
Narrator : When Ambu saw Kabayan in front of her house, she ask Kabayan soon about rice
and some money result of selling chicken.
Ambu : Kabayan where the rice? You didn’t bring anything. Kabayan?
Kabayan : Ambu, don’t talk to much. I was so tired. Be patient. I will tell you why I
didn’t bring anything.
Ambu : Ok. Lets tell me!

Suddenly Nyi Iteung come.

Nyi Iteung : What happen Ambu?
Ambu : Ask to your husband!
Nyi Iteung : Akang…?
Kabayan : Sssttt! I will tell you something. When I go to market according what Ambu
instructed to me, I will sell a chicken . Alhamdulilah someone buy the chicken and give me
money Rp. 50.000.
Nyi Iteung : Where is money?
Kabayan : Be patient Nyi Iteung.
And then, I go to rice shop to buy 3 kg rice. And I must pay Rp. 24.000. so I still have Rp.
26.000
Ambu : Wah how clever boy you Kabayan if counting a money!
Kabayan : Sssttt! Silent Ambu.
When I will back to house, I met with the beggar. And I give all the rice to him.
Ambu : What? Oh my God? Are you sure you give all the rice to the beggar? You are a
stupid boy! How we can lunch today Kabayan?
Nyi Iteung : Ambu, Kabayan still have Rp. 26.000 in his pocket. We can use it to buy rice
again.
Ambu : Give me the money now Kabayan!
Kabayan : Oh I am so sorry Ambu. I met with two beggars. The second beggar is a old
woman. I fell pity. I don’t want if your fate same with her. I help her with some money. So she
can buy some food to eat.
Ambu : Arrrrghhhhh!!!! It is impossible if I be the old beggar Kabayan. You make me
angry Kabayan! You can fell, if you can not eat today! (leave Kabayan and Nyi Iteung.)
Nyi Iteung : Akang, your mind is true, but misguided. Now Ambu very angry to
you. Let's apologize to Ambu!
Kabayan : Arrrgghhh! I always got the blame.

Next day.
Narrator : Kabayan met Abah and Ambu in living room, he tell their that Nyi Iteung and he
met with god in mount Gede.
Kabayan : Abah and Ambu I still fell sinned with my behavior last week. So yesterday Nyi
Iteung and I go to Mount Gede. I mean to ask help to god.
Abah : Why you went to mount Gede with nyi Iteung?
Ambu : He is right Kabayan. Why you went to Mount Gede and what you do after you
met with the god?
Kabayan : Ambu I went to mount gede for praying, fasting and also meditating to god.
Because we want to become rich. And after that we met the god. And….
Ambu : And what? What happen Kabayan?
Kabayan : Hold on Ambu. The story will never end if you always cut this story.
Ambu : I am sorry. Ok Kabayan I will be silent.
Kabayan : And then we met the god and the god granted us only 2 wishes. So we discussion
what we want wish.

Suddenly Nyi Iteung came.

Nyi Iteung : Hey, what happen?

Abah : Kabayan told us about yours met god.
Nyi Iteung : Oh, about that. It’s kabayan fault, he make us poor.
Ambu : Really? Kabayan told us about the story.
Kabayan : Ok, nyi iteung and I had a lengthy discussion about what we should wish for. It
had simply impossible for us to agree.
Nyi Iteung : Kabayan wanted to wish for a great amount of money, but I thought we should
wish for abundant supply of rice.
Ambu : And then?
Kabayan : Finally I became so annoyed with Nyi Iteung that I said, “I wish the gods would
turn you into a monkey !”
Ambu : Really?
Nyi Iteung : Yes ambu, he made me became monkey.
Ambu : Oh my God! Eleuh monyet!
Abah : Astagfirullah kabayan, why you made Nyi Iteung became monkey?
Kabayan : Because I angry with Nyi Iteung, Abah. And I could not bear, and so I wished
that my wife would become herself again. my wish was promptly granted.
Ambu : And how about your wishes to became rich?
Kabayan : That’s the problem Ambu. Because I have done use 2 wishes so I cannot made
the wishes again.
Abah : How a stupid boy Kabayan. I think if you are smart, you can use a wishes for
you want and other wishes for nyi iteung, Kabayan.
Ambu : Iteung, I think your choices to marriage with kabayan is wrong choices.
Kabayan : Don’t think like that ambu. I not like your thinking.
Ambu : Up to you kabayan.
Nyi Iteung : Ambu can you help me to prepare the meals.
Ambu : Ok. I think if I still in this room I think I will stupid like kabayan.

Narrator : Nyi iteung and ambu go to kitchen and Kabayan was talking with Abah. Abah
thinking that Kabayan is not only lazy boy but also stupid boy. He will trick Kabayan with his
question.
Abah : Kabayan will you guesting my question? If you can answer my question you will
get it! (put the Rp. 100.000-, from his wallet.) but, if you can not answer my question you must
me give money. Do you agree?
Kabayan : I didn’t have some money Bah.
Abah : Hmmm.. only Rp. 1000-, ?
Kabayan : Ohh ok! only Rp. 1000-,? (put money from his pocket). Right?
Abah : Ok! deal!
The first question from me. How far earth to the moon? Lets answer Kabayan!
Kabayan : Hmmm… I don’t know. Because I never go to the moon. Its for you! (give his
money to Abah.)
Abah : Hahahaha. I win! How stupid you Kabayan! Ok now your time to ask me.
Kabayan : What the animal who has two foot if he hiking to the month. But he has four
foot if he go down from the month?
Abah : Hmmm wait a minute.

Suddenly Nyi Iteung and Ambu pas in front of them.

Abah : Hey Nyai, Ambu please help me. Do you know what the animal who has two
foot if he hiking to the mounth. But he has four foot if he go down from the month?
Nyai : What? I don’t know Abah. Aya-aya wae atuh.
Abah : Ambu do you know what is it?
Ambu : I don’t know.
Abah : It is so difficult question Kabayan.
Kabayan : Can you answer my question? Come on! If not you will lost your money.
Abah : I can not answer. (give his money to Kabayan.) so what the answer from your
question?
Kabayan : I same with you. I don’t know too. (give Rp. 1000-, to Abah)
Abah : Ohh my God. Kabayan was clever than me.
Kabayan : Abah please listen me! Don’t think that someone didn’t know what you know.
Because sometime they also know what we didn’t know. Don’t disparage someone with your
ability!
Abah : Oh I am so sorry Kabayan.
Ambu : Hmm Nyai now I know if your choice is not wrong. Although he is lazy man but
he is wise man! I am proud of you.
Narrator : And now Abah never disparage Kabayan again. And Nyi Iteung succeed to prove
to Ambu if Kabayan still have kind attitude.
