2. To explain why there is such supreme deity Gugurang in that place during the old times
3. To realize the significance of the historical events in the past.

Body

A. Summary of the story

In the Philippine mythology includes deities, creation stories, mythical creatures, and folk beliefs
are famous in Indigenous tribe years. Some groups during the pre-Spanish conquest era
believed in a single Supreme Being who created the world and everything in it, while others
chose to worship a multitude of Diwatas and/or Anitos. In ancient Bicol belief in mythical spirits ,
creatures, and deities were intricately combined into creation myths, epics, and folktales.

During the historical years Gururang is The Bicolano Supreme deity who defeated Cagurangan
and declared Asuang to be his inferior. He commanded light and fire. A tall ,muscular with silver
hair, He once resided in Kamurayan or heavens but left to reside in Mt. Mayon, in his place he
placed Bulan in the heavens with the wind people.

In the Filipino context wherein eldest stories narrate the story begins. When the people saw fire
“calayo” flowing out of the crater of Mayon, they would grow afraid. They would then offer a
sacrifice “atang”to him to appease his wrath. The Baliana, priestess, officiated in the ceremony.
Always when they committed wrong, there would be loud moaning of the earth followed by an
eruption of fire and lava. Gururang is the symbol of Good and Bad in Bicol. “Maray” and”
maraot “.

Some of my relatives are familiar with this supreme deity Gururang during their years. Me as a
researcher I found out that some of the people in Albay still believe in Gururang . This deity is
known for a god that who punish people who do bad things and bless the people with fortune ,
miracles and good life when they do good things. So Gururang also balance the justice system
during the years.

My Relatives also shared the significance of gururang in life during their years that he is known
a very powerful deity. That’s why they respect him and afraid of him. My aunt is afraid of
committing sin because he might die or misfortune will come in her way.thats why she help
other people who are in need. So that blessings and luck will come in her way. But times go by
gururang remains a history and sacred among the flipino who believe in him.

B. Traits of Bikol culture and history

We all know that Bikolanos /Filipinos are fond of Myths and history stories. We love it when our
old elders or ancestors talk about this supernatural activities or any type that is beyond of our
expectation. This stories completes our childhood and it also part of our Filipino history. This
stories make our country unique due to different kind of beliefs that add ups to more curiosity
and beauty. This stands a lesson that we will never forget and will able to share it in the future
so that the future generation will understand the history of every city in the philippines.
Gururang is a old man with a fire in his eyes. But knows how to put people on limitation.
Gururang reminds us that we have to cherish our soul and body . To do good things not only in
your life as well as to others.

C. Related studies on the Historical and cultural Traits

The value of myths and legends to students of Filipino society and culture cannot be
overemphasized.These Stories are basics to our traditions , they are part of our heritage yet the
study of mythology has not apparently attracted the attention of some students nor educators .
Only Few people show interest in this sort of topics and studies.

Many Universiy in the Philippines not only in Naga city. Do not have this certain course or this is
not often open for everyone. This should be attach as part of our local culture and education .
So that it won’t lose its meaning and purpose. A balance should be maintained after all this
realities of the communities we live on.

A lot of people Failed to realize this thing that is very significant in our function in the society.
This is part of our fundamental concept of life , wherein it express the sentiment attach to it and
to this concept. How people supply Filipino constituents is through Value,family groups and
religions. In this form of value sit is possible to understand the customs and traditions.

D.Theory
One of it is Philippine Mythology and deities this myths and folktale in this theory it shows the
best way of how they describe and effective the way of telling people their stories. By using
different kind of tactics and perspectives to help further more the explanation of it. This also
shows each myth and deities function and its purposes. And how deities and mythology In a
