Spirituality: In a Catholic Perspective

- Padayon

Spirituality and Religiosity are two widely misunderstood terms that are sometimes
interchanged. It doesn’t mean that being Religious guarantees spirituality and vice versa. both
are two individual concepts but still tends to complement each other. Now let’s talk about the
four Pillars of Catholic Spirituality that would result in the renewal of our sense of spirituality.

First of the four pillars is Prayer, but not just prayer it coexist with Morality. Pray and
Morality can be seen as the old saying “Practicing what we preach”. Putting words into actions
and actions into words, Prayer should reflect the way we see things and do things and how we
deal with different people around us. If we pray for our wellness might as well pray for other
people’s wellness and do good yourself and to our fellow brethren.

Second is Social Justice, but what means to have social justice? You might ask. It is to
show love to your neighbor by doing what’s good for his/her well being. Unlike any other beings
we, humans have the mercy and love that is innate in each and every one of us.

Third is the Mellowness of the Spirit. The Genuine Joy that comes from God. Happy and
Joy are two different things and so always choose to be joyful over being merely happy. Always
smile regardless of the trials and difficulties that each and every one of us is facing. Smiling is
the least we can do to influence a culture of positivity and at the same time spreading love.

Last but not least of the four pillars is community life, the succession, and the endpoint of
the pillars. This would be the application of Prayer and Morality, Social Justice and the
Mellowness of the Spirit. With this, we are equipped spiritually in creating a harmonious
relationship with one another. But all of this is useless if it wasn’t for God. True Spirituality lies in
our constant search for God knowing that He gives the grace we need each day.
PYM Servant Leaders: Equipped to serve! — Hiraya

On September 29, 2019 (Sunday), Immaculate Conception Parish Youth Ministry (ICPYM)
hosted their Leadership Formation with a theme AHAVA: A Love that Stays (Col. 3:12-15) held
at Magnificat Formation Center, Immaculate Conception Parish (ICP) Damar.

The leadership formation was attended by 14 servant leaders from the parish and comprises of
4 major topic that aims to develop Discipline within themselves, rekindle Willingness,
Commitment, and Passion, strengthen Christian Spirituality, and enhance their Sense of
Responsibility.

The servant leaders were assisted by notable speakers named Coach Edson Ong, Herman Sy,
Fr. Anthony Olaguer, and Fr. Lemuel Tibay who have shared their profound knowledge and
experience in life and were able to express the importance of such quality in becoming an
efficient servant leader.

Later on, during the 5:00 pm mass the 14 servant leaders have been presented to the ICP
parishioners by Br. Carlos Carcellar. With the help of Fr. Lemuel, the parishioners were able to
meet the parish youth leaders and participate in praying for the goodness of the leaders and its
ministry.

Many are called, but few are chosen. This phrase might be to cliche, but it can simply illustrate
how God picked these youth to be His disciple — His servant leader. God could have been lots
of choices, but what makes this youth leaders distinct is their ability to answer God's call.
Belinda Quirante (ICPYM, Coordinator) said that "Sa formation na ito ipinaalala sakin na one
thing that can't take away from us is our faith.
himala."
