“Rizal”

The movie talks about the life of Rizal as a whole from when he was a kid up until
the time of his execution at Bagumbayan. The movie also showcases the time of the
Spanish era wherein a lot of oppression took place mainly by the friars themselves. The
movie also took note of the popular novels of Rizal which is the “Noli Me Tangere” and
“El Filibusterismo”, which also conveys the message of oppression and the sufferings of
Indios/Filipinos under the friars.

Personally, there are times that I feel like crying from the movie because some
parts shows of Rizal’s longing towards his family especially at the part when he’s about
to be executed and his mother and sisters visited him. For me that was one of the
saddest moments of the movie because it shows that Rizal is also a loving son and
brother to his mother and siblings. There were also moments that I felt giddy because
some parts are light despite of the seriousness of the movie’s theme.

Overall, the movie teaches a lot of our history during Spanish regimen and the
oppression that happened in our country back then. It serves as an eye opener for the
people that even though Rizal is dead, the memory of him lives on generation after
generations. From that I can say that the movie is a good portrayal of the life of Rizal
himself because it conveyed the message of what we should see based on what we
learned of from our history classes.

“Lights and Sound, Luneta Park”

The show focuses on Rizal while he’s exiled and is waiting for his execution in
Bagumbayan. It depicted the struggles that he had while the days went by until the time
of his execution. It just showcases what happened exactly what was happening from the
prison up until the time of his he was executed.

On that being said, Lights and Sound is one of those that can enlighten our
minds with the injustice being done by the Spanish officials, more of the friars
themselves. Honestly for my reaction, I was surprised at the gun scene because we all
thought that it will just be a sound of a gunshot but it turns out to be an effect. Also at
the beginning of the show, I was asking myself if my classmates who are sitting are also
statues but like that was a bit funny for me so I mentioned it here.

The thing that I could say for the whole that the narration is on on-point, the
feelings conveyed the true message of what Rizal would imply base on his works and if
we would base it to our prior knowledge of what we know of Rizal’s life story.
