Lourdes College

(Integrated Basic Education Department)

Senior High School
Capistrano St., Cagayan De Oro City
2nd Semester S.Y. 2018-2019

LEARNING PLAN

Subject: Physical Science Unit No.: 2 Grade Level: Grade 11

Unit Topic: Chemical Reactions, Force, Motion and Energy Date: Feb. 12-13, 2019
Strand: ABM & HUMSS No. of days: 2 No. of Week: 11th

Transfer Goal/s:
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to make a Venn diagram comparing Galileo’s
astronomical discoveries and observations vs. Ptolemaic model; make a scientific analysis how Brahe’s innovations
and extensive collection of data in observational astronomy paved the way for Kepler’s discovery of his laws of
planetary motion; and illustrate Kepler’s 3rd law of planetary motion to objects in the solar systemin building a
respectable community as stewards of God’s creation.

Essential Understanding:
Scientific discovery is the process or product of successful scientific inquiry. Objects of discovery can be
things, events, processes, causes, and properties as well as theories and hypotheses and their features (their
explanatory power, for example). Most philosophical discussions of scientific discoveries focus on the generation
of new hypotheses that fit or explain given data sets or allow for the derivation of testable consequences.

Essential question/s:
1. How do discoveries generate improvements in human lives?
2. How have discoveries progressed to meet people's needs and wants?
I. PRELIMINARIES
Review: How did these Greek models affect our understanding about the universe?
Focus: Philosophers/Scientific proponents and Discoveries
Motivation/Activating Prior Knowledge:
 Video presentation about Scientific proponents and Discoveries (5 minutes)
 What are some changes in understanding technological advances have caused to the people and
the environment as a whole?
II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT

A. Presentation of Concepts:
The students will know the:
- Galileo’s astronomical discoveries and observations helped weaken the support for the Ptolemaic
model.
- Brahe’s innovations and extensive collection of data in observational astronomy paved the way for
Kepler’s discovery of his laws of planetary motion
- Kepler’s 3rd law of planetary motion to objects in the solar system
The students will be able to:
- make a Venn diagram comparing Galileo’s astronomical discoveries and observations vs. Ptolemaic
model.
- make a scientific analysis how Brahe’s innovations and extensive collection of data in observational
astronomy paved the way for Kepler’s discovery of his laws of planetary motion
- illustrate Kepler’s 3rd law of planetary motion to objects in the solar system
Activities:
- Individual Activity. The students will make a Venn diagram comparing Galileo’s astronomical
discoveries and observations vs. Ptolemaic model.
- The students will put their output in long bond paper/s.
- The students will submit their output after the class.
B. Broadening of Concept
- How have world views changed over time as a result of technological developments?
C. INTEGRATION
A. Ignacian Core/Related Values: Integrating the Value of Excellence. In what way that you can still
perform well as you continue your studies?
B. Social Orientation: Integrating the Value of Discipline. In the advancement of technology, what is it
that you need to develop to maintain the balance in using gadgets, etc. that might possibly affect
the community as a whole?
C. Lesson Across Discipline: Mathematics. In solving different types of problems, what is it that you
need to develop/master?
D. Faith/Biblical Reflection: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but
gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
III. EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT
 The students will be told to do the task given below. They are going to write their answers in a 1
whole yellow paper.
1. illustrate Kepler’s 3rd law of planetary motion to objects in the solar system

IV. Summary/Action
 What are the different points of view on how scientific understanding has informed ethnic life
decisions?

V. Purposive Assignment: ½ crosswise

 Make a scientific analysis how Brahe’s innovations and extensive collection of data in
observational astronomy paved the way for Kepler’s discovery of his laws of planetary
motion
