CASE NO#1

ROGER CLARKE (A)

ANALYZE THE PROBLEMS:


 PROBLEM NO 1:
Clarke’s age was only 25 years and he was not well experienced for the job. He was
immature as compared to other Market Development Specialists who were of age 40
years. His minimum experience of doing job at such a high level was a big issue for him
to tackle it in front of Carter, his boss.

 PROBLEM NO 2:
His boss, Carter had a problem with Clarke that he was not much able to report him in
such lines that he demanded from him. He was unable to capture the mindset of his boss
about making reports.

 PROBLEM NO 3:
Clarke’s boss was dissatisfied from him because he did not inform Carter about his plans
and those changes that he brought in the plans. Carter wanted Clarke to inform him about
all the plans and changes in the plans and Clarke had his own style of doing work.

 PROBLEM NO 4:
Carter also had a problem with Clarke that he showed irresponsibility and did not hand
him over the two assignments that were due on that date 12th October and left the office
without informing about the incompletion of assignments and Carter faced problem of
not receiving assignments on date.

 PROBLEM NO 5:
Clarke was not satisfied with the Small World Travel Agency and asked permission to
use his own air travel card and Carter gave him permission. Afterwards, he took his
decision back that this act showed some sort of favor for him and he was told to use
tickets of Small World Travel Agency but he did not follow it.

 PROBLEM NO 6:
Carter also displeased from Clarke because he did not pay attention on his requests of
giving information about some tasks. Clarke put tasks on pending and it made Carter
dissatisfied from his work.

 PROBLEM NO 7:
Carter had another problem with Clarke that in marketing plan meeting, his (Carter) point
of view was not optimistic and he did not come true on the expectations of Carter in the
meeting.

 PROBLEM NO 8:
Clarke faced main problem of politics in company because he was promoted from sales
representative rank to Marketing Development Specialist. Carter was also not happy with
the decision that was taken by Dawson. Carter underestimated the skills of Clarke and
that’s why, with narrow eyes, he was not supporting any constructive effort done by
Clarke. He was just focusing on pointing out his faults in performing the job.

SOLUTION TO THESE PROBLEMS:

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 1:


o Although Clarke was intelligent but lack of experience was a drawback of him.
He should send on training for more than 6 months.
o He should have to get experience and techniques by working as an assistant with a
marketing development specialist.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 2:


He should do meetings with carter to know about his style of making reports and
accepting the points of reports. He should be focused on the style of doing work of Carter
so that his reports should match the expectations of Carter.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 3:


He should inform Carter about making any plan by doing meeting with him or by sending
any email then he should further proceed to implement the plan. He should also bring in
his knowledge about changes in plans.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 4:


Clarke should develop sense of responsibility that Carter demanded from him for
carrying out tasks. He should keep inform Carter about any information that he needed
quickly. Clarke doesn’t know that what was going in his boss’s mind so he should obey
his orders to prove himself capable of this post.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 5:
Clarke should be bound to use the Small World Travel Agency for air travel tickets so
that Carter should aware of Clarke’s visits to offices in other regions and purpose of that
visits.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 6:


Clarke should float the information to his boss and provide him all the information that
he requested to deliver him. He should cooperate with his boss. Carter may use negative
reinforcement and give him warning to do work on time and properly otherwise he may
face some punishment too.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 7:


Clarke should develop mutual understanding with his boss and should fulfill his
expectations. He should understand what he wants in meetings to perform and then work
on his boss’s expected lines to meet the goal and agenda of the meetings.

 SOLUTION FOR PROBLEM NO 8:


o Clarke should prove himself as a capable of this post by fulfilling the expectations
of his boss, by understanding his work style and should develop cooperation with
him.
o He should make a healthy relationship with his boss so that he could judge him on
equality bases with other senior Marketing development specialists.
o He should show high sense of responsibility and efficiency in carrying out his
tasks effectively.
o He should depict positive attitude with his co-workers, boss and those with whom
he deals. It will help him attaining their trust and knowledge about his
capabilities.
