SATMOTION POCKET USER GUIDE

Introduction
Satmotion tool is the best tool for point and line up a VSAT terminal enabling the
commissioning process as well. Satmotion enables to have the NOC accuracy at the installer
location; therefore the installation will be a lot faster and more accurate.

Satmotion Pocket on PC has one mode:

- Line Up tool, it provides an accurate pointing using SNR and then enables to transmit a
CW carrier and measure XPol and ASI caused at the satellite by the CW carrier.

Then a file with all the installation values is generated and sent to the HUB.

The map is Google Maps so it works the same way, it could be Zoom in and out if you need it.

Then make sure to set up the antenna on this Target Azimuth and Target Elevation.

After the antenna is roughly pointed, go to the start menu for accurate pointing and line up.

Also you can take a Screeshot pressing the ScreenShot button for later Opening on Pre-
Pointing as an Image.

And then Open the download and Save on C//Satmotion/maps folder; edit the name as you
prefer.

Pol Angle Adjustment

For Pol Angle adjustment, you must interpret the antenna dish image correctly.

When Pol Angle is calculated, two orthogonal lines are drawn over the dish.

The antenna dish figure displayed on the screen represents the proper position of the
antenna’s polarization axes, as viewed from the front of the dish (see below image), in order to
align to the satellite polarization axes at the VSAT location.

- If your PC uses DHCP, please enable DHCP option.

- Include correct Modem IP.
- Introduce Modem Login and Password.
- Makes sure that the Multicast is the correct for a given Satellite. If not edit it.
- Click OK.

Signal to Noise Ratio Indication

If the antenna it was successfully pointed we will see a green indication at the right side of the
screen with Signal to Noise Ratio value (SNR), it means we have pointed to the correct satellite.

Page
14
SATMOTION POCKET USER GUIDE
PC VERSION

In the above screenshot the antenna in not pointed correctly, so we will see an almost empty
bar; a finer pointing is needed, therefore we will move carefully the antenna to right, left, up
and down until we see some SNR in green at least 8 dB.

Once the remote is locked on the Satellite, the Spectrum Analyzer traces will be displayed.

*Please see Possible Problems and Solutions chapter of this document if you have achieved
8dBs of SNR and you do not receive multicast or this error.

The SNR value can be further improved by better pointing and carefully moving the OMT.

This yellow trace is the representation of what is transmitting from our BUC to the Satellite in
the same polarization (Co-Pol).

Enable CrossPol Isolation Measurement

Click XPol button in order to determine X-Pol Isolation.

Then the X-Pol trace will be displayed in light blue color.

CW Carrier ON
Minimize CW power by sliding the CW Power bar to the left (in yellow color on the upper right
corner of the screen) for a secure installation in case it is not already by default.

Press on CW Start, and observe in yellow the CW signal which is being transmitted by the
VSATs BUC, and the X-Pol interference which is generated at the Satellite.

Then increase CW Power until the Co-Pol trace is higher than the yellow line and lower than
the red line as in the following screenshot.

By moving the OMT, the X-Pol interference will decrease (light blue line).

Page
17
SATMOTION POCKET USER GUIDE
PC VERSION

After the X-Pol interference is minimized (light blue line) click on CW Stop, and do the 1 dB
Compression Point test.

CW Carrier OFF
Click on Stop button.

1dB Compression Point Test

Click on 1dB CP button

The tool will automatically determine the max power without getting BUC saturated and
record it in the log file that will be sent to the HUB after the commissioning process is finished.

In this example below, the 1dB CP was -14dBm. It is displayed below the CW Power bar in the
top right corner.

Page
19
SATMOTION POCKET USER GUIDE
PC VERSION

In case the BUC is very powerful and exceeds the red threshold (as set by the Hub operator),
the following message will appear:

In either case, the 1dBCP is determined and configured.

Adjacent Satellite Interference Option

Adjacent Satellite Interference (ASI) can be minimized in case it is measured at the HUB.

If it is, this option will be available displaying another trace in purple color when you press the
ASI button.

The ASI trace will be minimized by further pointing the antenna. The antenna needs to be
moved slowly.

This should be done after minimizing the X-Pol trace.

Restarting
In case of the X1 remote, the modem should first be restarted before carrying out the next,
Save and Send function. By clicking on Save & Send button, X1 resets automatically
nevertheless, in case it does not, press on the Reset button.

Save and Send Log file

Then the installation is finished, press on Save & Send Log.

The app will evaluate the installation and provides a PASS or FAIL result.

If the installation has passed send the Log File.

If the installation has failed, correct the Co-Pol Power or Xpol Isolation or ASI isolation in order
to pass the evaluation.

In case it gives any error sending the Log File, please send an email to the HUB.

You are able to use different methods, either email or automatically, choose your preferred
one.

Possible Problems and Solutions

LineUp Bandwidth is Currently in use

This means some other installer is using the frequency slot at this time, and not enough
Multitasking users were purchased. Please wait until the frequency slot becomes available.

No Line-Up Info available!

If you are receiving SNR value and not traces check the following:
a) Check “Satmotion Hub Installation Manual, chapter 5.2. Multicast” and review:

Page
24
SATMOTION POCKET USER GUIDE
PC VERSION

1. The MODCOD value sent

2. The multicast IP address is correctly configured in the options file both for the
SAT & Eth interface.
b) Firewall problems or Satmotion Service not available. It means the Satmotion Multicast is
not being received.
1. Solution: Disable Antivirus Firewall
2. Solution: Disable Windows Firewall on Configuration, Control Panel, Security, Windows
Firewall: Enable/Disable Windows Firewall, Disable on both Public and Private
Networks.
3. Solution: Check if your PC is connected directly to the modem through an Ethernet
cable or the recommended Wifi Access Point D-LINK 2310.

Evaluation FAIL
This is possible in the following cases:

- Copol is not powerful enough:

Solution: Increase the Copol Power. In case the BUC is very hot and it cannot transmit
more power, disconnect the modem and TX cable during 10 minutes and repeat the
transmission after. It might be that the BUC is saturating because the heat.

- X-Pol Isolation is not good enough (minimum 25dB) in general terms.

Solution: Rotate the OMT a bit more for minimizing the X-Pol. Always bellow the light
blue line.

- ASI Isolation is not good enough:

Solution: Purple trace should be below the purple line (ASI threshold).

Page
26
SATMOTION POCKET USER GUIDE

CW Stopped
This should be because the Copol has overpassed the Red line.

Or we have missed point and the SNR is not enough.

Solution: Point Better and increase SNR right side green bar.

Pre-Pointing Menu has not stored my Screenshots

If the PrePointing Menu has not any Screenshot make sure that the screenshot is saving on the
correct folder.

Solution: Store the Screenshot in the C:\Satmotion\maps folder of your computer after the
download is done.

Compression Point in Linear Area:

The 1dB Compression Point was not well calculated.

Solution: repeat the function one more time.
