STANDARD DATA ELECTRICAL ITEMS FOR BUILDINGS


PREAMBLE

The Standard Data for Electrical Works are prepared based on the relevant BIS Specifications
in conjunction with National Electric Code. Similarly the method of execution shall be as per the
provisions contained in IE Rules and National Electric Code.
The following are the Chapters.
CHAPTER 1 : CONDUIT LAYING
This chapter contains conduit laying i.e. M.S. Conduit, PVC Pipe and PVC Casing and
Capping. The MS Conduit shall be finished with stone enameled surface. The MS Conduit
accessories shall be threaded type only. The conduit shall be joined by means of screwed couplers and
screwed accessories only.
The PVC Pipe should confirm with relevant IS Specifications. PVC casing and capping is
meant of emergency and additional points only.
For LAN / Telephone / Computer Separate Conduit should be laid.
CHAPTER 2 : WIRING
This unit comprises of copper wiring for light points and fan points. Further, electrical
accessories such as Plug Sockets, Batten Holders, Call Bells etc., are provided in this chapter.
The PVC insulated and flexible copper wires shall be Fire – Retardant and confirm to IS 694.
The colour code for wires shall be followed strictly for the entire installation as follows :
R – Red
Y – Yellow For Phases
B – Blue
B – Black --- For Neutral
G – Green --- For Earth
All Switch boards for neutral conduit wiring shall be fabricated with CRCA Sheet Steel from
1.6 mm (16 SWG) thick with 7 – tank process and powder coating or Hot dip galvanized boxes.
The mounting height of boards (Bottom of Box) shall be as follows :
a) All Switch Boards : 1.32 m from FFL (Finished Floor Level)
b) 16 A Power Plugs
and Metal Sockets : Sill Level of the Window
c) 16 A Power Plugs
and Metal Sockets in Kitchen: Above 30 cm on Platform
d) MCB Distribution Board : 2 m from FFL
The entire installation shall be tested for
(i) Installation Resistance
(ii) Earth Continuity
CHAPTER 3 : RUN OF MAINS
This chapter contains run of mains and circuit mains from Main Distribution Board to Sub-
distribution Boards and Sub-distribution Boards to Switch Boards. All the cables shall confirm to IS :
694 and if fire retardant.

CHAPTER 4 : SWITCH GEAR & MCB DISTRIBUTION BOARD


This chapter contains of Switch Disconnection Fuse (SDF), On-Load Change Over Switches
(OLCOS), Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB), Distribution Boards (DB), Miniature Circuit
Breakers (MCB), Isolators, Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCB), Earth Leakage Circuit
Breakers (ELCB). The following are the relevant I.S. Specifications for the Switchgear.
(i) SDF --- IS : 13947 (Part – 3) – 1993
(ii) OLCOS --- IS : 13947 (Part – 3) – 1993
(iii) MCCB --- IS : 13947 (Part – 2) – 1993
(iv) MCB --- IS : 8828 : 96
(v) Isolator --- IS : 13947 (Part – 3) – 1993
(vi) RCCB / ELCB --- IS : 12640 - 1 : 2000
(vii) DISTRIBUTION BOARD IS : 13032
The Distribution Board shall have vermin, dust and rust proof as per IP – 20 and IP – 42
protections.
An earth leakage circuit breaker of sufficient rating earth leakage shall be provided on the
low voltage side to detect the leakage in x-ray installation, as per Rule 73 (ee) of IE Rules.
CHAPTER 5 : EARTHING
This chapter comprises of GI Pipe earthing, Copper Plate earthing, Earth Lead & Earth Strip.
The earthing should be provided for all power consuming devices as per IS Specifications.
Copper Plate earthing shall be provided for sophisticated electronic equipment.
The Earthing Work shall confirm to the IS : 732.
CHAPTER 6 : SERVICE MAINS & LTOH LINES
Weather Proof Single Core (WPSC) and Weather Proof Twin Core (WPTC) Service Cables
are provided in this chapter. Accessories for LTOH Lines, PSCC Poles are also covered under this
chapter.
The supports for overhead lines shall be of adequate strength confirming in all respects to
Rule 76 of IE Rules. The insulators shall confirm to IS : 1445. The OH Conductor (AAAC) shall
confirm with IS : 398.
CHAPTER 7 : STREET LIGHT LUMINARIES
In this chapter, Florescent Luminaire, MV Luminaire, SV Luminaire, Metal Halide
Luminaire, Post Top Luminaire, Well Glass Luminaire and Flood Light Luminaire are covered.
Provision of SV/ MV / MH Lamps shall be restricted to Non-residential buildings and
residential buildings where security is involved such as residences of Hon’ble Judges, Hon’ble
Ministers, IAS / IPS Bungalows, IBs, Guest Houses and Security Lighting keeping in view of the
increase in current consumption charges.
CHAPTER 8 : INTERNAL LUMINAIRE
This chapter is meant for Internal Illumination. General Luminaire, Fluorescent Luminaire,
Industrial Luminaire, Mirror Optic Fittings, T-5 Luminaire, CFL / Halogen Down Lights are covered
under this chapter. It is suggested to provide compact Fluorescent Lamps / T- 5 Lamps where
minimum lux level is required so as to conserve the electrical energy.

CHAPTER 9 : AC AND REFRIGERATION , FANS


Window type, Split type AC Units, Refrigerators, Ceiling fans and exhaust fans are covered
under this chapter.
The Air-condition Units shall confirm to IS : 1391, Refrigerators shall confirm to IS : 1476
and ceiling fans shall confirm IS : 374.
CHAPTER 10 : WATER HEATERS
This chapter comprises of Water Heaters and their accessories and repairs.
The Water Heater shall confirm to IS : 2082. Effective earthing shall be provided to Water
Heaters.
CHAPTER 11 : WATER PUMPS
In this chapter, Mono Block Pumps, Jet Pumps, Submersible Pumps (Bore well type & Open
well type) along with their accessories are covered.
Data for pump sets are prepared excluding the suction and delivery pipes. The pump sets
shall confirm to IS : 9079 and other relevant specifications where ever exist. For the items covered
under Civil SSR, rates have to be carried from Civil SSR.
CHAPTER 12 : BUS BARS
CHAPTER 13 : SWAGED POLES
DIFFERENT SIZES OF Swaged Poles as per IS : 2713 / 1980 are proposed in this chapter
with necessary brackets, garden posts and accessories.
The classification of roads and recommended assignment of MS Poles shall be as per Part –
5, out door installation of National Electric Code.
CHAPTER 14 : CONTROL PANEL & METERING EQUIPMENT
The Control Panel Board shall be :
(i) Of the metal enclosed, indoor, floor mounted, free standing type.
(ii) Made up of the requisite vertical sections when compiled together shall form
continuous dead front switch boards.
(iii) Provide dust and damp protection, the degree of the protection being not less than IP
– 51.
(iv) Readily extendable on both sides by the addition of vertical sections after removal of
end covers.
The height of the panel board should not be more than 2400 mm. The depth of the panel
should be adequate to cater proper cable termination.
All the Steel Work used in the construction of the panel boards should have undergone a
rigorous metal treatment process i.e. 7- tank process.
CHAPTER 15 : CABLES / CABLE GLANDS / LUGS
In this chapter, Armoured under ground cables with their accessories are provided.
The armoured cables shall confirm with IS : 1554 and XLPE cables shall confirm with IS :
7098.
Manufacturer test report shall be submitted for tests on cables in accordance with BIS
specifications. Cables shall be tested after installation and before commissioning by the using 1100
volts meggar and the following reading shall be obtained.
a) Continuity of all conductors
b) Insulation Resistance

(i) Between conductors


(ii) All conductors and ground.
Cable glands shall be provided wherever the armoured cables are connected to Distribution
boards. Cable laying and terminations shall confirm to IS : 1255. Earthing of cable glands shall
confirm to IS : 3043.
Cables if laid underground shall be at a depth of not less than 600 mm in a trench. Sand
filling shall be provided at the bottom of trench before laying the cable. Bricks shall be provided on
either side of the laid cable. Sand filling shall be done to cover the cable laid. Bricks shall be provided
on top. Earth filling shall be done. Cable identification tags to be provided at every 8 m length of
cable laid.
GI Pipe / RCC Hume Pipe / Double Corrugated PVC / HDPE Pipe shall be provided for cable
protection to with stand wear and tear of Vehicular Traffic at road crossings.
Cables shall bent to a radius of 20 times diameter of the cable with a minimum of 10 times
the diameter at restricted space.
Ladder or perforated type cable trays shall be provided if cable laid inside the buildings and
shall be properly clamped to the trays by plated MS Saddles at proper intervals.
CHAPTER 16 : TEMPORARY ILLUMINATION
This chapter provides Hire charges for temporary lighting arrangements. Data are worked out
based on the observed data. However, statutory service charges or VAT shall be added to the data at
prevailing rate of percentages
CHAPTER 17 : GENERATORS AND TRANSFORMERS
The Alternator shall confirm with IS : 13364 of 1992 and Diesel Engine shall confirm with IS
: 10001 and IS 10002. Transforms, substation equipment, substation maintenance and protective gear
data are provided in this chapter.
The transformers shall be designed, manufactured and tested as per IS : 2026. For LT bulk
supply, only Core Self Protected (CSP) type aluminum wound distribution transformers of 63 KVA /
100 KVA shall be proposed. Where HT supply is required, only copper wound distribution
transformers are to be proposed.
The lightening arrestors shall confirm to IS : 3070 and the protection against the lightening
shall be in accordance with Rule 92 of IE Rules.
CHAPTER 18 : REPAIRS TO MOTORS & REWINDING
All the miscellaneous repairs to motors & fans are covered under this chapter.
