 General Topic: Sanitation
 Seminar Title: Sanitation in Poultry business for owner and employees
 Seminar Description: This seminar introduces sanitation procedures and the use of
practical measures for the preservation of public health as valuable tool to discover the
importance of cleanliness to a healthy environment.
 Length of Time: 2 hours
Seminar Rationale
 Improving the environmental sanitation conditions will be highly beneficial in the
community. Hence poor sanitation and hygiene related diseases will be levelled out.
Infrastructures of health, water and sanitation facilities are keys to achieve a profitable
business as well. Understanding why sanitation is important to a healthy environment
could help in building a strong relationship between the company, the community, and
the customer. Sufficient and safe drinking water supply for the animals, improved
sanitation, and access to sanitary means of animal excreta disposal are the major areas of
work.
 The physical environment is very crucial to the very survival of man and it is a
fundamental right of man to live in a clean and unpolluted environment. Therefore, the
company should help in providing customer, employee, and community welfare.
Identifying sanitation problems will significantly lower the amount of bad effects that a
poultry business usually brings.
 An effective leader envisions a goal, understands what it takes to get there, and executes
accordingly. He knows his own strengths and weaknesses, passions and obligations, and
he always learning to better manage faults and challenges. An effective leader is
trustworthy, and so should be growing in integrity and humility. Knowing what is right
and what is not about a business will bring success not only to him as the owner but also
to the workers and community around him. This seminar will provide inspiration to the
participants to start exercising sanitation practices for their own good.
Learning Objectives
 Upon completion of the seminar, we hope employees as well as the owner will learn the
importance of sanitation and its contribution to the healthy living of a community or
society. Reflection and mentorship are useful tools to have along the way. We also hope
that employees and the owner will acknowledge that it is never too late to start
monitoring their sanitation practices and improve their facilities to address some of their
present issues regarding cleanliness. At the end of this seminar, participants will be able
to:
1. Understand common poultry diseases and their effects to the public.
2. Discover why sanitation is critical to a healthy environment.
3. Consider various personal sanitation techniques.
4. Know the importance of hygiene in your everyday life
5. Be inspired to take small steps towards a regular habit of maintaining healthy and
clean environment not only within the business aspects but also for the community.
6. Demonstrate Practical Understanding of Seminar Objectives
 The learning objectives will be achieved in the following ways:
1. A brief introduction of ourselves will allow the participants to get
to know us. This will help them engage with our discussions and activities throughout
the event.

2. Video Clip/Lecture/Group activity: Will show a video clip about the bad effects of
poor sanitation practices in business and community. Will have a short lecture
covering reflection and the different questions to ask ourselves.
3. Continued from #2, lecture will be, interspersed with journaling activities, and
maybe a group discussion.
4. Participant will be given a small notebook to use during the seminar during
journaling activities, and to take home with them
5. We will cover some of the many ways on how to improve good sanitation practices
and how to maintain it.
Activities
 Introduce ourselves at the beginning.
 Will give out a small notebook for in-seminar journaling activities. Participants will be
encouraged to take these home.
 Reflection activities incorporated in seminar to introduce participants to the tool
 Two video clips will be used to deliver part of the seminar‘s content. The first is an
overview of the video “Success with Sanitation Business” by Water and Sanitation
Program and the second is an interview with Rajeev Kher who shares his experiences in
innovating their business sanitation facility.
 Discuss how these improvements in sanitation can be done by the participants.
 Walk them through the benefits of proper sanitation practices not only for their business
but also for the community and customers.
 Question and answer activity.

Instructional Support and Assistance


 We will be using my own laptop, but we will need a projector, screen, sound system, and
either a flip chart or dry erase board.
 We will have Powerpoint slides to assist our instruction, and so we would like to provide
copies of our slides for participants to take notes on.
 We would like to have the room arranged so that participants can sit by small groups of
3-4 members for team activities and discussion.
 We would also like to have extra pens and paper, for use as needed.
