Auld Lang Syne Lyrics I Think Continually Of Those Who Were Truly Great
English Version by Stephen Spender
Should old acquaintance be forgot, I think continually of those who were truly great.
and never brought to mind? Who, from the womb, remembered the soul's history
Should old acquaintance be forgot, Through corridors of light where the hours are suns
and days old lang syne? Endless and singing. Whose lovely ambition
Was that their lips, still touched with fire,
*For auld lang syne, my dear, for Should tell of the Spirit clothed from head to foot in
auld lang syne, song.
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet, for And who hoarded from the Spring branches
auld lang syne. The desires falling across their bodies like
blossoms.
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine; What is precious is never to forget
But we’ve wandered many a weary The essential delight of the blood
foot, since auld lang syne.* drawn from ageless springs
Breaking through rocks in worlds before our earth.
We two have paddled in the stream, Never to deny its pleasure in the morning simple light
from morning sun till dine; Nor its grave evening demand for love.
But seas between us broad have Never to allow gradually the traffic to smother
roared since auld lang syne. * With noise and fog the flowering of the spirit.

Instrumental Near the snow, near the sun, in the highest fields
See how these names are fêted by the waving grass
And there’s a hand my trusty friend! And by the streamers of white cloud
And give us a hand o’ thine! And whispers of wind in the listening sky.
And we’ll take a right good-will The names of those who in their lives fought for life
draught, for auld lang syne.** Who wore at their hearts the fire's center.

Born of the sun they traveled a short while towards

the sun,
And left the vivid air signed with their honor.
