QUESTION:

1. Differentiate between a shopping cart and an online catalogue (at most half a page)
2. Visit the site https://www.anthropologie.com and answer the following questions:
a) What was your first impression when you visited the website?
b) What do you like the most about our website?
c) What do you like the least about our website?
d) Describe at least ten features of the site.
Shopping cart

A shopping cart is a piece of software that keeps the record of the items a buyer has ‘picked up’ from
the online store.

Online catalogue

It is a database of library materials. An online library catalog is an electronic bibliographic database that
describes the books, videotapes, periodicals, etc. carried by a particular library.

When I visited https://www.anthropology.com , my first thought was that the website is targeting
women and children as potential customers as most if not all of the items that I saw where for women
and children only.

The images of the website where stunning i.e. the photos of the ladies that are posing with the items for
sale, in this case clothing and accessories alike. These ladies must be ladies because they are beautiful
and that is what captured me from the start.

What I like the most about the website is six fold:

First, the website itself is sleek the images are well placed on the website. The items for sale are well
described with their different prices, colors, sizes and quantity.

Once an item is selected for buying, the website gives you an offer whether the item can be shipped to
your address if desired.

The website has a well designed menu where each category of items is well placed and it also has a
search bar where the visitor can easily search for a particular item on the website.

There aren’t lots of annoying ads on the websites compared to other websites that I have visited. The
pop up ads on this website is actually about the website itself and the offers it gives.

When I decided to check out, a well detailed summary of the items I selected where displayed with also
my order summary. On top of that the payment option has a promo code section where one can buy
these items at a discount if one has a promotion code.

The website is also secure so payment for the items needed by a visitor of the website cannot easily be
intercepted.

What I like least about this website was:

It targets only one sex. The website is meant for women and girls since the items listed there are those
used by the female sex.

Also the items for sale are very expensive to buy considering that shipping to your address may also be
included.
Also in the shipping to your address option, my address is not included i.e. all the address that are
included for shipping are not in my country, so it becomes impossible for someone who would even
want to buy an item here in Uganda to get it shipped for her.

The payment option is not so suitable for me since I have a PayPal account but I do not have any funds
deposited in my account lately, so there is no way that I can buy the items if I desired to.

Ten features of the website:

Catalogue management

Here the visitor can search and sort categories of the items easily using the search button. Also the sub
categories in the navigation bar can be managed easily.

Brands

The brands of the items on the website can be managed easily. They can also be featured on the
homepage. Some brands can be set to active or in active depending on the stock of the website. The
logos of the brands can also be managed.

Products

The visitor of the website can easily search and sort to find products in certain categories or with specific
attributes. Also the products can be managed the administrator of the website. Also the products or
items should be listed along with their details including price, quantity and more.

Content management

The website has pages that are managed by the website administrator. Each page has specific attributes
related to it such as the payout page, the homepage and the pages for each category of the items for
sale.

The website has banners on it. It is on the top of the website and it offers discounts on the website
itself.

worldwide online payments system that supports online payment transfers as an electronic alternative
to traditional paper methods like checks and money transfers.
