What are the arguments of the article in the Official diary (DOF)?

1. The main argument is that sugar-beverages contribute in a notorious

manner to the development of overweight and obesity in Mexico.
2. Overweight and obesity represents a problem of public health in Mexico,
thus action is need to state public policies and reduce sugar-added
beverages.
3. Mexico needs to implement State policy, in order to change food
consumption, and physical activities patterns.
4. A fiscal measure is need to lower the percentages of obesity and
overweight in Mexico, as for example, a tax with an IEPS.

What are the consistencies or inconsistencies that you found in the

document?
 How the high consumption of sugar-added beverages play a role in the
obesity, and overweight developed in Mexico, is mentioned many times
through the text. However, there are inconsistencies in the solutions
proposed, as for example what actions, strategies and policies or
programs are needed.

What are the bias or errors that you found in the arguments (bad
arguments, fallacies, omissions, false inferences and deceptive statistics)?
 The text talks mainly about how a big percentage of the obesity and
overweight in Mexico is caused by the high intake of energetic beverages.
Nevertheless, it didn’t mention statistics or hard evidence that supports the
claims made. Therefore, although it might be true, it doesn’t have
evidence to confirm it. Also, it mentioned that policies and programs would
make a change in the impact of sugar-beverages, but the text don’t have
sources that supports that claim.

Can conclusions be derived from the arguments?

 The text describes good claims, but it has a lack of arguments. It doesn’t
have reliable sources to lain on, and it makes claims without statistics or
valuable information. A good information to have would be the statistics of
the people that got diabetes or obesity in the last years, or what
percentages of Mexicans consume sugar beverages.

Does the point of view of the document is derived from research?

 It has some type of research, as for example, the state policies that will be
implemented for The Secretaria de Salud. However, it is minimum, thus, it
needs to develop more research, and data from Mexico’s energetic
intakes and results from it.

In which way are you ordering your own arguments to avoid being
disperse?
 I’m objectively analyzing the arguments and claims made throughout text,
and then reasoning them using critical thinking. Also, I tried to make short
and clear sentences, and to organize my text with questions, and answers
engaging myself in a reflective thinking. Thus, I left behind assumptions
and I tried to build my arguments appraising the ones mentioned
throughout the text.

Conclusion

 Obesity and Overweight are a problem in Mexico, and the text argues
about how the sugar-added beverages play an important role in this
findings. It tells how the Congreso de la Unión has an initiative to tax with
an IEPS. However, has a lack on information, and reliable sources that
back up how sugar-added beverages have a direct impact in Mexico’s
overweight, and obesity. As well as, it doesn’t have statistics or sources
that support how the tax would have a direct impact into lowering the
obesity and overweight in Mexico. Thus, the arguments made need bases
and foundations.
