Applying For: Post Graduate Certificate in Business

Born and brought up in a family where my father is doing a government job and mother is a housewife, I
always wondered that is it necessary to do the job for making a living? In deep down, I had longed to go it
alone. As a child, I was always encouraged by my parents to perform well in studied so that I could get a
well-paid job in the future. Eventually, after finishing my high school, I chose Mechanical Engineering as
my undergraduate major at A. D. Patel Institute of Technology (ADIT) and completed my Bachelors in
Technology with 6 CPI. The curriculum comprised of subjects like Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass
Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Turbo machines, Dynamics of Machinery, Design of machine elements and
other courses which have provided an insight into the basics of engineering and its applications which
encompass every field of technology.

I am sure you would have noticed that I have a high number of backlogs in my undergraduate program.
Initially, I faced the challenge of coping with the pace of learning Engineering and to help overcome these
setbacks, I devised my own learning methods like using labeled pictures of mechanisms and
informational videos to relate information and breaking down information into smaller pieces to
understand better. Wherever possible, I also strived to perform actual experiments to understand the
concepts and clear all the backlogs to complete the Undergraduate program in time successfully. I am
confident that my skills have sharpened over these years, and I shall be able to perform to the
expectations in an even more rigorous study program.

After graduation, I started working full-time at INOXCVA. In the Design and Development team, I was
entrusted with the engineering of cryogenic pressure vessels and technical bid evolution. After spending
years and climbing the corporate ladder, I realized that I wanted to know more about running a business
than working in a single department and doing highly specific work. INOX is a big company so
understanding a whole business by staying in a small department was quite difficult. For that reason, I
switched to a relatively small company Ultra Pure Gases Pvt. Ltd. as Assistant Manager-Engineering.
Here, I was leading a team which was solely working for Mechanical Design activities. To know more
about management I started working on a project of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). ERP is a
business management software which helps users to store and manage data of their business. Still, the
corporate tree of this firm was big and organizational fundamentals of upper management were unclear to
me.

Finally, I decided to change the firm, and fortunately, I was offered a manager's post in FLEXATHERM.
Hoping to get overall experience about the field, I joined the company in May 2018. Since my joining, I
am working with Design and product development team. While developing new products and improving
the existing products, I learned many aspects of market research, customer needs, costing and estimation.
Also managing a team of engineers and draftsmen inculcated certain qualities such as compassion and
integrity. Also, this has enhanced my skills needed for relationship building.

While my tenure during this company I started spending my free time educating myself regarding
business management through reading books and TV shows.” The 4-hour workweek” by Timothy Ferris
inspired me to read more books in Business and self-help categories. Over a year, I read many books such
as “Crushing it!” by Gary Vaynerchuk, “The Tribe of Mentors” by Timothy Ferris, and “Zero to One” by
Peter Thiel (co-founder of PayPal). All these books contain stories of successful entrepreneurs. Also, I
watched some documentaries and reality shows like “Rotton”, “Dirty Money”, and “Shark Tank”. “Shark
Tank” offered me exceptional information and ideas for businesses and investments. As the concepts
behind these businesses unfolded through my professional experience, the books and TV shows, my
interest in the field of Business evolved.

Eventually, I decided to study the business from a reputed business school. ‘Where to study?’ was the big
question. After a ton of reading articles on studying in Canada and discussions with friends and family
members in Canada, I successfully managed to decide to study in Canada for the below reasons. For
being one of the world’s most popular destinations for education, Canada offers an unparalleled
experience of living among multilingual society with different languages, religions, and culture. In one of
the UN surveys, Canada ranked as one of the best places in the world to live for the past nine consecutive
years. Secondly, in the perspective of studying business, Canada offers a diverse range of specializations
in Business. Also, students can combine their study with an internship or work experience in the field.
Experienced professionals that teach a business degree come from all over the world, which creates
excellent networking possibilities for students and expands their horizon in business matters.

My personal experiences as a working professional and lesson learned during my tenure have taught me
the importance of management skills and business strategies in the Industries. Therefore my unwavering
passion in this field would propel me through this program and boost my chances at succeeding in one of
the most challenging universities. I am sure that the program at Algoma University would provide me the
in-depth knowledge and business skills. After completing a business course from the University, I am
looking forward to gaining a competitive advantage by having expertise in more than one area. If I were
given a chance, it would enable me to make my presence impactful in the field of Business and enhance
the reputation of this prestigious university further.
