T
hursday, 10 October 2019, was not only a
celebration of the University of the Philippines
Los Baños’ 101st Loyalty Day and Grand Alumni
Homecoming but it was also a special evening at
DSSTCJ, as people sang praises and worshipped our Lord
and Savior through the One Unplugged Praise and
Worship under the BLD Communication Arts for Renewal
and Evangelization Services or CARES. The BLD CARES
program aims to: 1) promote innovative, vibrant and
creative ways of promoting our faith as Catholics; 2)
engage people especially the younger generation to
experience Christ’s presence through worship that Glory and Praise to God! The BLD San Pablo District
weaves prayer, music and Scriptures in a seamless and conducted the Basic Bible Seminar Part 1, last 20
integrated mode; 3) provide an avenue for the younger October 2019 at DSSTCJ Rm 1. There were 29

service through songs and prayers. Fr. Reynald Atienza
gave a talk on the Gospel and he amplified the
significance of spreading God’s word. TJ and Janis
Delfino, Neil Rebua, and Ivan Escamos served as
instrumentalists. Arbie also played the electric guitar
while leading the singing and praying accompanied by
select members of the Praise Ministry, Singles Ministry
and the Youth Ministry. Other members of the Youth
ministry also performed as song animators.
For the inaugural launching of the One Unplugged:
Praise and Worship, the Parish Youth Council of
DSSTCJ, the Singles organizations within DSSTCJ, and
parish youth organizations of DSSTCJ as well as of
surrounding LB barangays have been invited to
participate.
Fr. Reyland Atienza rendered the exhortation on the
Word as he spoke on the New Evangelization for the
youth. He declared the urgency of spreading the Good
News of Salvation. Fr. Reynald started with his
thoughts on the title of the event, ONE Unplugged. He
said that initially, he wondered if the title should have
been the opposite of unplugged which is PLUGGED,
meaning being plugged spiritually with Jesus Christ our
Lord and Savior. But then he said, he realized that
those who thought of the title probably meant that of
the youth being ‘Unplugged’ from the usual world,
from their day to day lives, and giving time, focusing
on Jesus, praying and talking with Him for the love and
care He brings to humanity.
Brother Vini Cadiz emphasized that the thrust of this
worship concert is evangelization, and it will be
pursued in various creative ways. The praise and
worship will serve as one of the creative outlets for the
youth (i.e., new songs may be created and sang, and
may even spur other related projects like video
preparation, etc.).
One praise and worship takes a different format but
still under ‘Worship Team’ approach. So the Ministries

whose roles are rendered through pastoral care and
working behind the scenes will be present and will provide
assistance as may be necessary. These are the Service
Ministry, Intercessory Ministry, Couple Coordinators of
Singles and Youth Ministries, the District Council of
Stewards, and the District Cluster Shepherds.
Brother Vini Cadiz is confident that the praise and worship
under BLD Cares will eventually turn out as a spiritual and
creative expression for the youth. Accordingly, it is
important to ponder on nowadays how to retain the
enthusiasm of the young population (Singles and Youth
members) in worshipping and praising God, specially with
so many events going on around them and occupying their
time. Vini Cadiz said that if we don’t find new ways to grow
or evolve with the times to keep BLD relevant to the Youth,
in several years, the results will take a toll on the BLD
organization because the future of the organization
depends on the present members and most specially, the
would-be members under the Youth and Singles Ministries.
During this special corporate worship, the whole
community expressed their prayers for the Holy Spirit to
anoint all worship leaders and team with wisdom, love,
and zeal to evangelize our invited youths from the vicariate
and the communities and to touch all invitees to come and
seek the Lord in this worship.
In the announcements, Vini Cadiz asked if the congregation
would like to attend another Praise & Worship such as the
One Unplugged and the audience responding with a
resounding “Yes”. Nel Bantayan acknowledged the worship
leaders, the instrumentalists, Fr. Reynald, the Singles,
Youth and Praise Ministries and the working ministries and
auxies who formed part of the Worship Team. ◼

scheduled on November 17, from 9-5 pm. We hope
and pray that more will be added to the number of
participants.
The Teaching gave a new perspective on the Holy Bible.
It was the opportunity to absorb added knowledge and
experience about many interesting information on the
Holy Scriptures. The teachings intended to help the
participants achieve better appreciation the Gospel.

Orientation- Vini Cadiz. The closing prayer was led by
Sis Lina Briones.
The composition of participants to the BBS Part 1 are
broken down as follows: 2 from ME31 Southville and
from BLD Calauan, 2 from BLD
Putho, 6 from BLD - Los Baños, 2
SPE# 6, 3 from LSS # 9 and 1 IM, 1
from Singles Ministry. ME Class
Shepherds also attended the
teaching. The LSS graduates and
members of ME 29, 30 and 31, the
Singles and Solo Parents were
encouraged to attend the seminar through their class
and homestead shepherds of the District.

I got my sign . . .
Jesus said to them, "This generation is an evil
generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be
given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as
Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will
the Son of Man be to this generation.”
(Luke 11:29; Matthew 16:4)
Each of us is prone to ask the Lord for signs. I
remember as a student, I used to travel from
Mandaluyong to Los Baños on a weekly basis.
Riding on a BLTB bus, I would stare at the sky
watching the cloud formation. Sometimes, I
would see a bear, an arrow or sometimes even
a lechon (?).
I would wonder what these figures meant in my
life – will there be a typhoon coming and
classes suspended?; Will I meet a girl?; Or will
someone invite me to a party with lots of food?
I never saw a peso sign or a dollar sign,
otherwise, I would be a millionaire by now. Do
you ever wonder why, sometimes, you suddenly
wake up very early in the morning and you
can’t sleep anymore? Or why do you suddenly
remember a loved one or a friend, whose name
or image pops up in your head. Bakit kaya?
Looking back, the signs in the heavens never
made an impact in my life. But, I never got
tired of looking for signs in the sky. Even when
I became a member of BLD, I continued to seek
signs from the Lord. And then, I got my sign! It
is to pray and give thanks to the Lord for all the
things and happenings in my life.
Praying and giving thanks is easy when it is
about something positive – a piece of good news
at the office; or a business opportunity; or a
good result of a medical test; or the birth of a
baby. But do you give thanks when something
bad happens in your life? The answer is yes.
Give thanks for these trials because they are
used by God to teach us and train us to
persevere and pray for guidance. Remember,
He will never abandon us and no trial is
insurmountable.
So, pray at all times. When you have the urge
to look up at the sky, just pray. When you
suddenly wake up from sleep, it is a sign to
pray for a loved one or a friend. ◼

BLD SPD Covenant House “Ipon” Challenge

 Ang BLD San Pablo District ay nangangarap na
magkaroon ng sariling Covenant House na
pagdarausan ng mga Encounter Weekends, Life in the
Spirit Seminars, Teachings, Class Reunions, at Weekly
Word Sharing Circle. Matutupad ang ating pangarap
kung ang bawat miyembro ay makikiisa sa “IPON
CHALLENGE PARA SA COVENANT HOUSE”. Isa itong
proyekto na sinimulan ng Cluster Shepherds na sina
Tito Sonny at Tita Senen Escamos. May mga canisters
o alkansya na kung saan ay pwede nyong ihulog ang
mga barya o pera na inyong naipon. Paki tanong lang
kay Fernan o Edith Artates. Kokolektahin po namin ang lahat ng alkansya sa ating Community Day and
Christmas Party sa December 1. May regalo po ang mga magbibigay ng kanilang mga alkansya. 

 LSS 9 Graduates Team Building

T
he Team Building Activity titled “Getting to
Know You” was successfully held on 22
September 2019 at the Maligalig Residence,
Maahas, Los Baños, Laguna. The activity
aimed to organize the LSS # 9 graduates and strengthen
their bond together with the current members of the
BLD San Pablo District. The activity was also initiated by
the Evangelization Cluster to ‘kick off’ the
operationalization of the lambs’ “Post LSS Growth”. The
activity hoped to achieve the following: 1- Provide an
atmosphere of camaraderie as a smooth transition to
the graduate’s integration into the BLD community; 2-
To give enough room for new members to learn and
assimilate the BLD values in a leisurely manner while
getting them on board in their roles and responsibilities,
and what to look forward to as a member of the BLD
family and community.
Attended by a total of 32 participants, 11 of which were

graduates of LSS # 9, while the rest were shepherds and
other BLD members.
This first teambuilding activity successfully stirred the
enthusiasm of those who attended as the games brought
fun and enjoyment. Now everyone is looking forward to
the next Team Building activity and hope to encourage
more LSS graduates to participate and enjoy the fun.
They even committed to attend the BBS1, a teaching
about Bible on Oct 20, 2019.
We praise and thank the Lord for the success of this
activity of the Evangelization Cluster conducted at
Maligalig’s residence. We appreciate the effort of all shepherds
who encouraged their lambs, some even accompanied them in
the activity. We pray for continued blessings for all LSS Class
Shepherds, the District Council of Stewards and District Cluster
Shepherds. We fervently hope that more will come in the next
LSS reunion activities. To God be the Glory, Honor and

“Gabi ng Parokya”, the Eve of the Feast Day of St
Therese Shrine, (01 October 2019). The BLD San
Pablo District, through select members of the Youth
Ministry, participated and presented a song and dance
number focusing on the theme “Kung ano ang uso noong
Panahon mo: Kanta, Sayaw at Damit. The event “re-lived”
the songs and dance of the yesteryears at DSSTCJ
grounds. The BLD organization was represented by the
YM, with Sonny/Senen Escamos, Vini Cadiz, Nel
Bantayan (one of the emcees), Ogie Salvo, Fernan/Edith
Artates, Aris/Gina Borja, Tito Teody Gibe and members of

PASTORAL Cluster  Youth Ministry  The Youth Leaders who
confirmed their commitment (“Yes” to God’s calling) to head the
following teams are: Praise - Lance Miclat, Marian San Pedro;
Intercessory - Loren Reyes, Anna San Pedro; Outreach - Aira
Collado, Blessa Barrion; Secretariat - Pristine San Pedro, Jelai Javier;
Service - Dit Laforteza (and awaiting the “Yes” of one YM member as
co-Head for the Service Team).  General Assembly and planning for
2020 activities was held on 28 September.  The “once-a-month”
joint worship service of YM with the Singles Ministry started on 14
September. Last 21 September, the YM attended the Emmaus
Worship and served as Praise Ministry.
 Singles Ministry  The Singles joined the YM Worship Service on
14 September. They plan to hold this joint SM-YM worship service
every second Saturday of the month.  The Philippine BLD Singles
Inter-District Conference will be held on 18-20 October at the BLD
Covenant House, Dasmariñas, Cavite. The BLD-SPD, being a Full-
term District was given up to 15 slots for the participants. Registration
fees of those who will be attending this huge gathering of Singles will
be subsidized by the Community.
 Healing and Counseling Ministry  The HCM weekly Word
Sharing Circle is held every Monday evening at Rm 1, DSSTCJ. The
WIFI 2 is slated on 30 November. Details will follow.
 Emmaus Community Worship  21 September, Mon and Bhel
Valdenaro led the Worship Service with Ras Del Castillo as sharer. Mon/
