Extraction Of Starch

Potatoes are peeled and then washed


with water

Potatoes are cut into cubes then


added with 200 ml distilled water
into the blender

Mixture is filtered into a container


using a cheesecloth

Residue from the mixture is


discarded

Filtrate is refrigerated overnight

The sediments that settled at the


bottom of the container is recognized
as starch and is isolated through
decantation from the mixture.

The isolated starch is then weighed


into the analytical balance.
Serum Separator Gel Tube Preparation
Mixture is heated into a hot plate at 300
degrees Celsius until a gel is formed

Mixture is maintained at a 70- 75


degrees Celsius

Mixture is placed into a syringe

1ml of the mixture of each concentration


is placed into 3 tubes using a syringe
(0.20 g/ml, 0.25 g/ml, 0.30 g/ml)

Tubes are centrifuged for 3500 rpm at


15 minutes for the mixture to settle at
the bottom

Tubes are labeled according to their


concentrations and allowed to cool for
12 hrs.

Patient is asked to fast for 12- 14


hours before extraction

Signing of blood extraction consent

Preparation of blood extraction


materials and tubes

Blood extraction using 10 ml Terumo


syringe

Incorporation of the blood into the


prepared tubes (both control and test
SST)

Tubes are then sent to Mayon Clinic


Laboratory and Medical Services for
the Testing of Lipid Profile and
Potassium levels.
