CHAPTER 3

Research Methodology

This chapter describes how the study was conducted and the researcher used in gathering the
necessary data for the completion of the study. This chapter includes the research design,
Instrumentation, Respondents, Procedure, Hypothesis and Conclusion. (sunject to change sa
pagkakasunod sunod at sa name)

Research Design(RESEARCH METHOD)

This study used Experimental Research and Descriptive Research method to explain and
test the hypotheses to describe the situation concerning the cause and effect relationship.

Descriptive research in which the proponents interact with the respondents, may involve
surveys or interviews to collect the necessary information while Experimental Research the
only method of research that can truly test hypotheses concerning cause-and-effect
relationships.

By employing research method, the proponents collected data to answer questions concerning
the current status of the subject of the study.

Respondents (POPULATION AND SAMPLING)

The respondents that were surveyed are 60 people. Using equal allocation, a sample size of 30
was set for players who are using pain killers and players who are not to serve as proof if pain
killers really help the UE Caloocan Varsity Players to do well in their chosen sports.

Instrumentation (RESEARCH INSTRUMENT)

The proponents used different instruments in order to gather data; the instruments used are
techniques which consist of the following:

Questionnaire – The questionnaire is most frequently a very concise, preplanned set of

questions designed to yield specific information to meet a particular need for research
information about a related topic. The research information is attained from respondents
normally from a related interest study.

Interview - It is the most common and widely used method in gathering data regarding the
opinions of the players. The proponents directly ask questions to gain factual information in
identifying the effect of pain killers to the athletes on or before the game.

Procedure (DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE)

Questionnaires are in the form of interview forms and handed out to the respondents. The
results of the interview were review, studied and used to gathered more opinions of the
respondents in order to help the respondents’ study.

Hypothesis (NULL HYPOTHESIS)

H0: There is no significant difference between athlete taking pain killer with those who are not in
terms of flexibility, strength, and energy.

EXPLANATION: sa thesis kasi my 2 kinds ng hypothesis…..

NULL HYPOTHESIS(H0) –there is NO significant difference ……….. ginagamit to sa umpisa ng

thesis kasi WALA PANG NAPROPROVE kaya tingin ko ito yung sinasabi ng prof m n NULL
HYPOTHESIS….. kadalasan ang LAST question mo sa STATEMENT OF THE PROB ANG
NASA HYPOTHESIS MO…

ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS (HA)- there is a SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE….. so meaning sa

Conclusion

Based from all the results of the analysis of the data gathered from the interview, it can be
concluded that:

1. Some players of UE Caloocan takes pain killers before the game started in order to help
them to reduce the pain being felt.

2. Always taking pain killers also helped to improve the player’s performance by getting
numb.

3. Aside from the pain killers being intake by the players like alaxan and mefenamic, they
sometimes used other pain killers like omega pain killer liniment and salonpas

4. There is a significant difference between athlete taking pain killer with those who are not
in terms of flexibility, strength, and energy.
Synthesis

The study focuses on the effect of pain killers to the varsity players of the UE Caloocan that aims to
gather all the possible information that will help the proponents in making this study. The
proponents gathered all the possible effects of pain killers whether good or bad, whether prescribe
by the doctor or bought over the counter and also the reasons why players need to use pain killers.
As the study goes, it proved that many athletes use pain medications to deal with chronic, back or
muscle pain. But using these medications doesn’t fix the injury. So, all of these problems, facts and
theories, do pain killers really affect the Athletes?

From the Related literature and studies, discussed related topics regarding the study. The study is
similar to all the related studies and literature in the way that like the other researchers like Jennifer
Smith and Shawn Radcliffe said most of the athlete whether professional or not used pain killers in
order to lessen or to reduce the pain being felt, to have a good performance on or before the game.

The study is different to all the related studies and literature in a way that the target respondents are
only the varsity or athletes of the UE Caloocan. The study is not focus only on the bad effects of
using pain killers, the proponents only try to find out the reasons why UE Caloocan varsity or
athletes takes pain killers and the possible effect of it.
