Mid-Term Speech Outline

I. HOOK:

A. What’s the first thing you notice about any visual marketing material, the thing

that can make or break how you look at something? It’s appearance, of course.

II. INTRODUCTION/INTERNSHIP:

A. Hello, my name is Alexandra Lindgren, and this semester I am working with

Kristy Mapp, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Bay Area

Church.

1. She basically does any and all art that is needed, along with

managing and designing the church’s website and social media.

B. During my meetings with my mentor, we generally stay in her office and work,

and I accompany her on any small tasks she has to complete.

1. On a normal day, I draw and work on my project, and I talk with

my mentor about design choices or about her job or work.

III. PART 1: What is your project/product?

A. This semester, my product will be the main design and marketing for the month of

December, including calendar and illustrations.

1. The design and marketing aspect of my product requires for me to

make a specific artwork and theme to work around, as well as a calendar.

a. This artwork will be adapted across several formats – nine, so far.

b. The calendar I am creating will involve making at least 25 separate

illustrations.

2. My project will be the thing people see when they enter the

building and it will represent the material for the month of December, so it

is important that it looks good.

3. Of course, the calendar will be something we can hand out and

that people can use.

IV. PART 2: Why did you choose this project?

A. I was given this project by my mentor.

1. I was glad to accept the project in order to help my mentor with all

the work she has.

B. The project is also a challenge and will help me develop my skills, and it gives

me freedom to explore my own ideas and concepts.

1. I get to develop my own themes and art styles, with my mentor’s

help and input.

2. I am also able to develop my technical skills in Adobe programs

and in teamwork that will be useful to me in the future.

V. CONCLUSION:

A. I am very excited to be working with Ms. Mapp, and I am looking forward to

continue working on and finishing my project.

B. At this point, my next step will be completing the illustrations for the calendar, all

of which need to be finished by the 25th of this month.

C. I am learning a great deal about how to do art professionally in the mentorship,

along with lessons in how to collaborate and use certain Adobe software.

1. Since I am planning on working in a creative environment – such

as Disney or Pixar – when I graduate university, these skills will be

applicable in my later career.
