THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

While there are many factors involved in delivering quality basic education,

language is clearly the key to communication and understanding in the classroom. Many

developing countries are characterized by individual as well as societal multilingualism,

yet continue to allow a single foreign language to dominate the education sector(Benson

2004).

Language is very important so teaching and studying (foreign language) in school

is very helpful to deepen the bilateral understanding between two nation, kim added.

Aside from korean, other language include spanish, nihongo, french, german, and

mandarin

Korean language will be tougth as an elective subject starting school year 2019 to

2020, Department of Education (DepEd) secretary Leonro Briones clarified Friday, amid

(misconception) about the teaching of the language that flooded social media in the past

week. In June 2017, DepEd and the Korean Embassy in the Philippines signed a

memorandum starting the teaching of Korean language together with other selected in

languages in 10 high school is the national capital region.


Statement of the Problem

This paper would like to emphasize the perspective of the Senior High School

Students of Notre Dame of Midsayap College to Korean language in the curriculum.

Thus, this study was conducted to find answers to the following questions:

1. How Korean language will help us in the future if it will be added in the new

curriculum?

2. What are the strengths of Korean language if it will be added in the new

curriculum?

3. What will be the weaknesses of Korean language if it will be added in the new

curriculum?

Objectives of the study

Generally, this study is aimed to determine the perspective of the Notre Dame of

MIdsayap College and the senior high school student towards Korean language as

additional language subject to the new curriculum.

1. What will the effect of adopting the Korean language or using the Korean

language in the new curriculum.

2. To determine the strength and weaknesses of Korean language based on the

perspective of STEM 11 senior high school students.

3. To let the students know that we don’t need any new language in new curriculum.
Significance of the study

The findings of the study would be of significant value to the following:

Future researchers. This paper may serve as a reference for future researchers who will

conduct a related study.

School administrators. the information obtained from the research study may serve as

based line data of the policy implementing regarding adding Korean Language to the new

curriculum.

DepEd Personnel. the study could help DepEd personnel to investigate the effect of

adding Korean language to the new curriculum.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study was limited to determining the perspective of Senior high school

student towards Korean language as additional subject in the new curriculum of the

cooperating school of notre dame of midsayap collage. The notre dame of midsayap

collage were chosen because they are accessible being the cooperating school.
