Implementation of the Open High School Program in Alubijid National

Comprehensive High School: A Preliminary Evaluation

ABSTRACT
One major problem of the concerning education in the Philippines is the increasing
number of drop out students. This research paper is a preliminary evaluation of the Open
High School Program in Alubijid National Comprehensive High School- Senior High
School .The researcher attempts to know the reason/s why students enrolls in the Open
High Program and likewise wants to know the status of the SHS OHSP program in Alubijid
National Comprehensive High School in terms of Mode of Instruction and/or Instructional
Materials. The population for this study constituted a 29 Open High students from both
grades 11 and grade 12. the researcher relied on the views of the participants to evaluate
the situation of the Open High School Program in terms of reasons for enrolling and
learning materials and mode of instructions. The results showed that Forty-eight percent
(48%)of the respondents enrolled in the OHSP program for the reason of getting
pregnant. Thirty-eight percent (38%) are learners considered to be “Students At Risk of
Dropping Out”. Three (3) are employed and only one learner is overage. In terms of Mode
of Instruction and delivery, Out of the 29 OHSP respondents 28 of them chooses the
online module for the mere reason of convenience. 20 respondents choose to learn with
the aid of computers. On the other hand, 15 responded that they best learn when had
copy of modules are within reach. And based on the initial findings, the researcher
recommends that, Department of Education Division of Misamis Oriental should craft
policies that specifically caters Senior High School Open High School Program, and not
just a mere skeleton adopted from the OHSP program that is already implemented and
practiced.
