Figura. Muchos de los yacimientos de uranio en el oeste de Estados Unidos son del tipo “rollo”
como se muestra en la sección transversal de la figura. Las aguas subterráneas oxidantes
disuelven el uranio de baja ley y lo precipitan de nuevo en otro punto del acuífero, en el que
prevalecen condiciones reductoras. Esto da como resultado la acumulación progresiva de
uranio y el movimiento de los depósitos en forma de arco a lo largo del acuífero.

Entre los principales depósitos andinos, las fajas de pórfidos
cupríferos, los grandes yacimientos polimetálicos del Perú y los
depósitos de Sn-Ag han atraído un interés especial. También ha
existido, aunque en menor grado, interés por los depósitos
ferríferos tipo Kiruna de Chile y Perú, en particular por el Laco
(Andes de Antofagasta), cuya génesis (magma de mena de
magnetita-apatita en parte extrusiva o bien reemplazo
neumatolítico-hidrotermal de rocas volcánicas) ha sido motivo de
controversia.
En el caso de los p pórfidos cupríferos,
p , es sorprendente
p su
emplazamiento ordenado espacial y cronológicamente en fajas
paralelas al borde de subducción, que en el caso de los
yacimientos chilenos ha seguido rigurosamente la migración del
magmatismo de W a E entre el Cretácico superior y el Mioceno.

Otro tema de cierto interés se refiere a una posible “culminación”
metalogénica terciaria de las provincias metalíferas cuprífera y
estannífera, así como a la relación de la parte más rica (y completa)
en fajas metalíferas del orógeno con el espesor de su s corteza
corte a
continental.
Desde luego, es posible atribuir ese efecto a un mayor grado de
erosión de los depósitos mesozoicos (ejemplo: los de Sn-W del
norte de la faja estannífera boliviana). Sin embargo, al menos en el
caso de los pórfidos cupríferos del territorio chileno, no existe
comparación posible entre la magnitud y las leyes alcanzadas por

depósitos mesozoicos
i preservados,

l elevadas

magnitudes que alcanzan aquellos de las épocas Eocena,
Oligocena y Pliocena.
Por otra parte, los fenómenos análogos de “maduración
metalogénica” han sido bien documentados en la evolución de
arcos de islas, como en el caso de la plataforma de Fidgi.
