Bangalore Group Members : 15BAR0002 - Kavvya S 15BAR0021 - Praharshita 15BAR0041 - Sanjay Project Brief ● Mixed use development - 250 acres located 18km outside Bangalore ● Township Site Area - 141, 500 sq.m. ● 3 Special Economic Zones, a five-star hotel, a municipal lake, high-end villas, luxury apartments, and other required amenities. ● Vision : Uninterrupted flow of work during the construction phase, while enhancing the quality of life by creating safe, lively and well-connected neighbourhoods Geography and Climate ● Southeast of Karnataka, India at 900 m above sea level ● Flat land is mostly present ● Number of freshwater lakes and tanks ● Belongs to Seismic zone II ● Vegetation consists of deciduous canopy and coconut trees ● There are distinct wet and dry seasons in Bangalore - Tropical Savanna Climate ● Coolest month is January (15 degrees C) and hottest April (35 degrees C) Site Strategy Basic design changes in the master plan were advised that enabled
● Pedestrian and bicycle travel as preferred modes of travel to enhance
social and economic interactions ● Reduce greenhouse gas emissions ● Reduce fatalities and increase overall quality of life Factors ● Plan was developed to accommodate high vehicular traffic and car usage ● Economic zone classification ● Consists of High end villas and five star amenities that are meant for the higher income group. ● Envisioned to successfully increase non motorized networks within project limit, reduce trip length and numbers within the development Roads Networking ● Clear hierarchy in road systems designed for vehicles and car trips ● Three clear entry points with movement restriction - safety and control ● Segregation of users by function during peak hours and lengthening travel distances ● Pick up and drop off points for autos at entry points ● Creating shorter and convenient pedestrian access networks within the development would ensure more people would opt for walking as a travel option Open and Built Spaces ● Common spill-out spaces were re-imagined as nodes to accommodate for conflicting uses, large volumes of users ● Nodes would be integrated with continuous pedestrian pathways making them lively pause-spaces along the main vehicular road. ● Residual Spaces, interfaces with the water’s edge, open recreational spaces, or common waiting areas were not designed in the master plan. ● This inhibit the growth of a socially vibrant community. Transition Spaces ● Adjacent and complementary functions improved continuous sidewalks, speed tables and street vegetation to build better linkages ● The nodes with adjacent built environment integrated with continuous pedestrian pathways Street vegetation as frontage (a), wider sidewalks with planter and street furniture (b), narrower carriageway with bicycle lanes (c) and medians with tree plantations (d)
