Activity #6

Title : Boiler and Cooling water Analysis

Area : Classroom – Lecture Room
Duration : 16 hours
Equipment : 1. Boiler Analysis Chart
2. Cooling Water Analysis Chart
Competence : A-III/2 F1.C3 Operation, surveillance, performance assessment and
maintaining safety of propulsion plant and auxiliary machinery
KUP: A-III/2 F1.C3.KUP2.3 The efficient operation, surveillance, performance
assessment and maintaining safety of propulsion plant and auxiliary
machinery
Performance Outcome : 1. Describe typical testing and treatment methods for Boiler and cooling
water contamination and deterioration
2. Interpret typical results of testing, giving appropriate recommendation
which should be undertaken.
3. Differentiate the characteristics of a boiler water from an engine cooling
water

Description : 1. Students will be grouped together having 2 person for each group
2. Each group will be provided with a sample Boiler water and Cooling
water Analysis Chart.
3. The Students shall then analyze the condition of the Boiler water and
Cooling water base on the given Boiler and cooling water analysis chart.
4. Upon discussing with the group, each group will then present/ submit
report of their proposed/recommended corrective actions and findings of
any abnormalities reflecting from the Boiler and Cooling water Analysis
chart of the condition of the Boiler Water and cooling water in relation to
tolerable limit such as, but not limited to:
a. P and T Alkalinity
b. Chloride Content
c. Concentration of ionized hydrogen (pH)
d. Conductivity
e. Hardness
