ABELS 1-5

FINAL IN IELS

1. In Noam Chomsky "Language Great Mysteries" video he answered the question about "What are the
major debates in linguistic and he said;
 Science and human scientist.
 There are two obvious questions that are for elementary but it is sensible.
 How come there are any language at all.
 Why apparently so many.
 How the language emerged in evolutionary record.
 How can they deliver it.
 Fundamental computational.
 Most of question is about science.

In his next video "Structure of Language" it is about.

 Why the apparent diversity is pretty superficial.

 In order to know what is language and it is necessary to have training about it.
 He said that people can learn without training.
 Language is a simple matter of training.
 Child can be trained to speak and there's nothing unique about.
 Language is innovative and creative character.
 If every child us capable of the understanding and producing then it is complex structures which have no
simple and no relationship.
 We say new things and ideas.

For Steven Pinker that is member if Department of Brain and Cognitive, Director of Cognitive Neuroscience Center
MIT and Author, in his two videos it has;

 The language of thoughts translating and speaking is almost like.

 Mind has language of its own independent.
 Mental ease is part of language.
 Mentally shaped by language.
 We have different interpretation
 Eskimo has many words.
 Words and thoughts can't be the same thing.
 English has lot of ideas.
 Language has set of rules.
 Language having a cadence, certain sounds, pitches and timbers.
 Person who have no language could still think and have thoughts.
 Scientist have techniques.
 Babies mind and thoughts.
 Evolving of English.
 Language has phonology, morphology, and syntax.
 Language is a very rich part of the mind but only in one part.
 Famous rules.
 Dirty secret from linguistics.
 Language is not a thought.
 Words are arbitrary.
 Sentences, words and grammar.
 Basic rules in English.

2. Yes because they explained it well by giving of some example to understand what they're saying because
they want us know it like how language emerged and why do we have language. We all know that there's
a part that we are confuse about language because our mind is not that open or in set because when we
were born we already have language and knowing that language is something about what we say first
words that has no meaning but for other people it has. Little by little we start to develop and understand
what is language. As Noam Chomsky pointed out that we can learn language without training, at first we
can learn it by ourselves, second to our surroundings and environment. Language is innovative and we
can say or invent new things and ideas from what we have and it just need to be improved. But Steven
Pinker says that language has set of rules in order for us to understand and it is more complex. Also that
language is a mental ease where in our thinking is affected because it is quite independent of language
and a scenario can affect our physical and mental state like for example eye contact, it is non-verbal so
it's really a sense to our mind. Our thoughts that shaped by language and constrained by limitation of it
and connected to our consciousness. Even though people has no language they can still think and have
thought because we have our own way of interpretation in finding of what is our language and it has
techniques and we can create or have idea. When it comes to words there's something in underlying the
words itself because it can be ambiguous. Words and thought can't be the same thing because if words
and thoughts are same it would be impossible to appoint because new words and sentences will develop
and need to explain where the word came from. In sentences, sentences can be constructed even if it is
infinite because we are expressing ourselves.
In the two speakers assertions they give us information about language and we will remember it
and we will understand why we have it and a information that contradic about language because it is
formed of mind and thoughts, words, and sentence in a way that it can help us to determine more about
language.
3. For me, Noam Chomsky starts talking about science and human scientist and at first I don't have any idea
why science needs to include in language. Because me as a student of ABELS I confess that I'm not that
more aware of English nor language because to be honest I'm just starting to learn new things, ideas, and
develop it and also to the fundamental computational because it says that it is the basis of language to
us. I think I need to know the evolution of language before I proceed to other definition though I learned
few information about language.

4. The system of English language is a complicated matter for me because it has set of rules that we need to
know and follow before proceeding. Mental ease is one of affected by language, as what I've mentioned
below we our mentally shaped by language. We have thoughts that are need to be express because some
of what we are expressing through writing and i t is true that language is a very interesting to learn because
that is where we start and when we start to know about one thing we will become curious of it and it is
starts of learning too deep. Also, in our mental ease there is a way that we think but without language
and meaning because all of our questions begin and ask ourselves. Like me that are being curious about
language like where it start and how it is formed. Can we call it language by speaking or we need to be
train to learn language. I want to add a hypothesis in the video "Language systematically influences how
one perceives and conceptualizes the word." As what speaker said in the video language is not written
language, have a proper grammar and thoughts. It is based on a people how he/she understand language
and his/her knowledge about it. Because sometimes I don't understand some people that are capable of
speaking using English language without knowing the rule and being informed if they're saying the right
thing. It's just that they're expressing themselves. English back then was not started already in English but
it's evolving as time passes by. There are things that need to go through before we can call it English.

For example, in our History of English Language subject our professor discussed to us when is
English started and because of it I felt that I learned something new and I also noticed that there's still a
similarities in language back then and to English now. I can say that yes they have differences but they are
connected and it is just because of evolving that's why we think that there's no similarities at all and
today's era we can be better and will understand language. For now, I understand that language has a set
of phonology that are combine vowels and consonants, syntax that assemble words into phrases and
sentences and morphology that assemble bit of words.
