1. What are the techniques done in genomics?

How is it connected with the human genome

project?

The techniques done in genomics include: Genomic DNA Isolation, Separation of

DNA, Cutting and Joining of DNA, Cloning and Vectors, Detection of Gene of Interest,
Recombinant DNA and Cloning, Production of Multiple Copies of DNA Using
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and DNA Sequencing.
Genomics is the study of the genome which is used by the Human Genome
Project (HGP), which is an international consortium of publicly funded projects, to
sequence the human genome and map every gene on every chromosome.

2. How would this technology improve human lives? Are we using this technology in the
Philippines to improve our lives?

Genomics is important to human lives as it gives us better understanding of

different genetic diseases such as sickle cell anemia, heart disease and others. As almost
all of the human being has the same genetic make up but differs about 0.1% this can help
us have a better understanding of that small percentage that may be the solution in
figuring out the different diseases.
The Philippine has access through different genome technologies as it has
different institutes such as The Philippine Genome Project which is a multidisciplinary
institution that combines basic and applied research for the development of health and
therapeutic products, and improved agriculture and aquatic resources. Through this they
offer different services such as DNA Sequencing and Bioinformatics.

3. How would this technology address the problem in human health and the environment?

Through this technology we gain a better understanding of the human genes and
its different functions. This may give us possible solution through the different genetic
disease that are being experienced by people around the globe. With this technology and
knowledge on the genetic sequence of a human person it can help us determine the
diseases that a person has. This can also lead to the creation of new treatments that can
target the genetic anomalies. And lastly it can be a preventive measure for future genetic
diseases.
