1. Course Description: In an effort to guarantee every student’s success in college, career and life, this
course is a supportive opportunity allowing students to develop:
 A positive relationship with a mentor
 Organizational and Time Management skills
 A greater sense of personal responsibility
 Overall academic success and on-time graduation

Objectives:
 Students will develop relationships with staff, which will improve their academic success and
expand their personal growth.
 Students will have in-school opportunities to complete work and receive personalized
instruction from their course content teachers.
 Student will receive timely interventions.

2. Materials Required:
 Paper
 Pencils and Pens
 Highlighter
 Binder and Agenda (provided by CCHS)
3. Grading System:
Participation 25%
Includes adherence to guidelines and expectations.
Binder/Agenda 25%
Maintaining and utilizing binders and agendas according to guidelines and expectations.
Attendance 50%
Based on number of days Advisory is in session.

Pass (P) 60% - 100%


No Pass (NP) below 60%

Attendance points: students will receive 10 attendance points for every day they are on time
and only 5 points if they are tardy. Leaving without permission is considered an absence.

Participation points: students will earn up to 10 participation points per day from one of the
following activities:
 using Advisory to complete any academic activities (i.e. homework, reading, class project,
organizing binder/backpack)
 attending an intervention activity (called /signed out for tutoring or makeup work)
 attending an enrichment activity (college reps, class projects, community service)

Binder/Agenda Points: Binders and agendas are required for Advisory class every day. Binders

may be graded periodically. To receive full credit, students must have a binder and agenda with

them daily. All course materials must be hole-punched and placed in the three-ring binder and
all bags must be free of any papers. Extra Credit will not be offered for this course.

4. Title I Program: Academic tutoring and test preparation is available to all students. Additional
support for passing classes and graduating on time is the intent of these services. Support through Title I
funding is available in the areas of: Math, Reading and English. If interested, please contact the
Principal Mr. Matthew Georgia at 602-764-4010 or Assistant Principal for Instruction Ms. Angela Tibbs
at 602-764-4011 for additional information.
5. Make-up Policy: Students can get any missing assignments the first day they return to school from the
teacher. Attendance and participation cannot be made up.
6. Attendance: “Absent” is defined as nonattendance in an assigned class or activity for more than one
half of the period. (PUHSD Governing Board Policy J-1561 JHR)
“Tardy” is defined as not being in the assigned class or activity when the tardy bell
has finished ringing. (PUHSD Governing Board Policy J-1561 JHR)

Students may fail the class for the semester in any course, when reaching a total of 12 excused/unexcused absences
and after school-documented interventions have been exhausted. (Student Procedures Handbook page 22)

7. Expectations:
 Traveling: In order to travel, students must obtain a signature from the teacher they will be
traveling to by 10:00 am. If you are failing a class, the EXPECTATION is that you will either
travel to that class or work during Advisory to improve your grade.
 Participate: The Advisory classroom should be a positive learning environment. Students
are expected to cooperate, be respectful, and participate in any activities that are offered.
 Use Advisory to complete any academic activities (i.e. homework, reading, class project,
organizing binder/backpack)
 Attend an intervention activity (called /signed out for tutoring or makeup work)
 Attend an enrichment activity (college reps, class projects, community service)
 Come to class prepared: Every day bring binders, agendas, and any materials needed to
work on academic assignments.
8. Tank: If the student does not comply with the Advisory expectations, the student may be assigned to
tank for 3 days the first time and 5 days for the second incident. Thereafter a discipline referral may be
written.
9. Lunchtime detention: For non-compliance with Advisory expectations, the student may be assigned to
lunchtime detention for the first twenty minutes, after which the student may go to lunch. Failure to
attend may incur a discipline referral.
10. Certain days will be designated as “no travel” days, and on some occasions Advisory period will not
meet, such as on days when there is an all-school assembly special schedule and district late-start days.
Students should consult their agenda and the school website for calendar information and check the
notices on our classroom whiteboard.

2019. Students will receive participation points for submission of this page. Points will be deducted for
late submission.
