• Teaching approach: The lesson is based on the Communicative Approach, and

organized through the PPP procedure.

• Materials and resources: A cube to develop the first speaking activity, copies of
worksheets 1 and 2, IQBoard to present the topic.

• Pedagogical use of ICT in class: In this lesson, I will use the IQBoard to present the
topic and to check the activities together.

• Seating arrangement: They will move to the school library and sit around two long
tables in big groups.

 Cooperative work: they will work in groups at the beginning and then in pairs when
reading the text. They will also cooperate in checking the exercises.

 Potential problems students may have with the language: I think they may have
some problems when reading the text because of the vocabulary, but in general the
activities are similar to the ones the have been doing so far.

 Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I’ll check most of the activities orally so
that students can understand the reasons why they were right or not. I’ll also check
the written activities individually and at the end of the class, I’ll check their
understanding of the use of 1st conditional sentences.
Routine: 5’

Purpose: to start the lesson, get students into the mood for work, establish initial
rapport.

I’ll get into the classroom and greet the students. I’ll ask them how they are and how
their weekend was.

Warm-up 20’:

Purpose: to establish rapport and know a bit more about the students.

I’ll start the first class with a game to know a bit more about the students’ lives and to
make them feel more comfortable when speaking and participating during the lesson.

We will move to the school library where students can sit around two long tables, so
they can see each other. Then, they will have to throw a cube in the air and talk about
one of the topics written on it: FAMILY – SCHOOL – HOBBIES – FUTURE PLANS – DAILY
ROUTINES – ENGLISH. I’ll explain them the game first, and I’ll tell them some sample
questions that they might answer when talking about each topic. The idea is that they
can talk as much as they can in an informal context so I will also be able to get an idea
about their speaking skills level and fluency.

Transition: “Great job!! Let me tell you now that I’m also a student as you know, and I
am currently working at this school as a primary teacher in 1st and 6th grade and in a
private institute the rest of the time. Just to give you some details about my life. Another
day, we will continue with other topics. Now, let’s continue with the lesson.”

Presentation 10’:

Purpose: to expose the learners to the target language and to activate their prior
knowledge about tenses and conditional sentences.

I’ll invite them to work in 4 groups and I’ll display a presentation on the board with some
examples of 1st conditional sentences. They will have to do a multiple-choice activity
about this topic. I’ll give them 1 minute to choose their answers, and then we will check
together why they chose them. This activity will focus on grammar structures and
vocabulary knowledge, so they options will try to be tricking for them. They have already
worked with 1st conditional sentences, thus the following activities will just work as a
revision.

(I’ll use the same presentation for the rest of the activities)

Transition: “Ok people, excellent job! Now it’s your time to write your own sentences”

Development 35’:

 Activity 1 - 20’:

Purpose: this activity is aimed at fostering contextualized practice of the teaching points.

Students will have to complete a worksheet to practice how to make 1st conditional
sentences.

WORKSHEET N°1:

Once they finish the activity, we will check their answers all together. Students will write
their answers on the IQboard.

Transition: “Great activity! Ok people, excellent job! Now it’s your time to write the date
and copy these sentences”
 Activity 2 - 15’:

Purpose: to review some vocabulary and develop their reading skills.

Students will work in pairs. They will read the text and complete the table with
information from what they have read. They will start talking about jobs since this will
be the topic for the following lessons.

WORKSHEET N°2

I’ll check their answers while they are working but we will check all together the
vocabulary the following class to keep on working on the same topic.

Transition: “Very good job people! Just take your copies and we will use them again next
class to keep on working on the same topic!”

Closure 10’:

Oral activity: I’ll display the sentences they worked in the presentation so they can
complete them orally.
Students have to organize their stationary and the chairs and desks before leaving the
classroom. I’ll invite them to do that and say Goodbye outside.

T: Excellent class that we had today!! Let’s take your things and go outside to say
Goodbye.
