Speech on World Food Day

Dear audience,
Malnutrition and hunger are currently two
major challenges for all developing and
non developed countries in the world.
Statistics say that one out of every nine
people in this world are suffering from
malnutrition. That comes down to a figure
of 800 million people in the world.

That 's more than double of USA's

population. Despite active measures
taken by the governments around the
globe billions of people remain at the risk
of hunger. No doubt so many efforts are
being made in that direction to ensure
food for everyone and eradicate hunger.
world food day is another such step.
World Food Day is a day to take action
against global hunger. Held annually on
16th October, people from around the
world come together to declare their
commitment to eradicate worldwide
hunger from our lifetime.

World Food Day is celebrated every year

across the world. It’s an annual
celebration in the honor of the founding
date of the Food and Agriculture
Organization launched by the United
Nations in the year 1945 but the key
points for celebrate this event came in
1979.
Though it was established, it was first
observed 1981.since than World Food
Day is celebrated widely with great
enthusiasm by several other
organizations which are concerned
with food security such as the
International Fund for Agricultural
Development, the World Food
Program, and others.

Dear audience,
These events promote worldwide
awareness and action for those who
suffer from hunger and for the need to
ensure food security and nutritious diets
for all. The focus of the day is that food is
a basic and fundamental human right.
Yet, in the world billions, over 820million
people worldwide suffering chronic
undernourishment, 60% women and
almost five million children under the age
of five die of malnutrition-related causes
every day. It’s also important to note that
while millions go hungry, 672 million
people suffer from obesity, and a further
1.3 billion are overweight.

Dear audience,
Therefore, it's the need of the hour to
strengthen our fight for hunger and
combat it with more dedication. World
Food Day provides us an opportunity and
a platform to strengthen that fight. While
it's true that majority of changes in the
situation can be brought by businesses
and governments only the importance of
every individual's actions should also not
be underestimated. Everyone should do
whatever they can to take this fight
forward. If majority of people make it a
goal to avoid food wastage and contribute
something to charities working in the field
of nutrition and hunger, enough steps can
be taken to eradicate hunger and
malnutrition.

Last. but certainly not the least,

governments should keep their records
updated and accurate. It has been seen in
some countries that rather than removing
malnutrition and hunger, their statistics
departments have chosen the route of
presenting misleading statistics related to
hunger.
So rather than misleading people with
wrong statistics governments should work
towards solving the problem itself. Media
can also play a big role in keeping such
governments on right track. There is a
clear need of help from all quarters to
solve this issue.

Only then it's possible to have a world

that's not undernourished or
malnourished. a famous quote is
"Economics depends on health of people.
and health of people depends on the
health of food".
