Introduction:

My name is Rehmat Singh. I'm 20 years old. I have a nuclear family consisting of my parents and
siblings. I hail from a small village Poonian in Punjab. My father is a farmer and my mother is a
homemaker and my younger sister is a doctor and my elder sister is a businesswomen. I do not
have any family member or relative in the state of Queensland and I believe that will make me
more self dependent and give me the opportunity to explore the beautiful country of Australia.

Academic Background:

as for my education background, i have completed my Diploma in Mechanical engineering from

Ludhiana Polytecnic College, Katani kalan in 2019 and have scored 7 CGPA. The course was of 1
year. Before my diploma, I underwent my senior secondary education 12th grade in non-medical
field from Nankana Sahib Public School samrala Punjab and scored 55% marks in the 12th grade
CBSE Board examination in 2017. I completed my 10th grade in 2015 from Max Arthur
Macauliffe Public School, Samrala and scored 9.4 CGPA in 10th grade CBSE Board examination. I
realised that Australia will be the best place for me to continue my further studies in Engineering
So i signed up for my English test and scored 6.5 Bands Overall and individually in Listening i got
7 bands writing 6 bands reading 6.5 bands and speaking 7 bands.

Your Goals in Life:

I want to be a successful and reputed mechanical engineer and one day I want to start my own
company and i want my company to be recognised globally.

Why choose VU:

Victoria university offers a high quality of education and is among the top 2% universitites in the
world. From the research i have done i came to know that all the labs in victoria university are
well equiped with computers with high specs and all the lectures are recorded and are uploaded
on the universities website and I can watch them if i miss something during the class. Also the
victoria universuty has received six platinum and one gold awards in Elearning. Its is also very
close to the footscray train station therefore its easily accessible by public transport and
moreover the fee structure of victoria university is reasonable as compared to other universities
such as la trobe university has a fee of 31,200$ and daekin university has 35,200$.

Why Australia:

There are many reasons which i came through internet and other resources, due to which i
chose australia rather than india as australia is the third most popular study destination for the
international students around the globe. Indian education system doesn't allow creativity but
universities in australia hail a fine blend of theoretical and practical knowledge and only a few
indian universities teach education according to the international standards. Australia has eight
of the hundred top universities in the world. It has high ranking universities with government
investments on international schlorships. Australia has 5 out of the 30 best cities in the world for
students based on student mix, Affordability and quality of life. Australian qualification and
institutions are recognised globally for their high quality and excellance. Australian universities
have compact classrooms which enables students to make an interactive study environment
with their teachers. Australian climate is quite suitabe for the indian students as it has moderate
temperature which attracts most of the asian students as they are able to adapt themselves very
easily. Basically, I would be a part of a friendly and multi cultural environment which would
enhance my study experience.

Why not India:

After completion of my diploma i started searching options for my higher studies in India as well
as overseas. In India, I searched various universities which are suitable for my course but i
dropped that plan due to some reasons:

·0 Indian Education System focuses more on theoretical knowledge as compared to

practical skills.

·1 they use conventional teaching methods and these methods are used as there is same
syllabus every year and there is nothing new to learn.

·2 Staff is not updated as they use old softwares and also there is no proper guidance and
training provided specially in govt. colleges

·3 only a limited number of colleges are upgraded and also there is a quota reservations
which means seats are fixed for SC and BC students which is a big problem.

·4 also indian education is not giving career options at global level, so i believe that foreign
education would be best for me.

Why not any other country:

I have also researched about other international options available like CANADA and USA. They
do provide good education options for international students. These countries provide excellent
facilities for education but the tuition fee and living expense are much higher when compared to
Australia.

CANADA: the weather in canada is quite chilled during winters which would be difficult for me to
handle while Australia has a climate similar to my home country. Furthermore, I trust Australian
education system more as compared to canada as australia is currently leading the asia - pacific
countries. Therefore it would be a great opportunity for me to study in australia.

USA: Their entry requirements are very complicated and not simple at all. Moreover, most of the
reputed colleges and universities providing Bachelor of Engineering degree of 4 years have a
high fee structure. Ultimately i am saving one year of education also i don't have any relatives in
USA and it would be difficult for me to adjust in a new country without someone's support.
Course Details:

The course i choose is diploma of engineering which will later lead to a degree. The whole course
duration is 4 years including my degree. the beginning date of my diploma is 17 february 2020
and ends on 31 december 2020 campus location - City Flinders there i have to study 8 core units
which are : Algebra and calculas, Engineering Physics, Engineering and community, Problem
Solving for engineers, engineering mathematics, introduction to engineering design and
engineering fundamentals.

my 3 year course of bachelors begins on 22 february 2021 and ends on 31 december 2023.
Campus Location - Footscray park and the core units in my bachelors will be thermodynamics,
dynamics, project management, engineering analysis and modelling etc.

Why Diploma to degree:

As i was not eligible for direct degree programme and fortunately victoria university has a option
to opt for diploma to degree.

What are your career plans or prospects:

After the completion of my couse, i will return back with an international degree. i will be having
bright job opportunities in my home country. i can work as a Automotive engineer, Quality
control engineer and so on in some reputed companies like TATA Motors, Godrej groups, Larson
and Tourbo etc. Australian degree is recognised all over the world so i can easily find a job. the
average salary of mechanical engineers in my home country is 6 -7 lakh rupees annually.
therefore i can establish a good career in this field.

Why Would you come back:

As i am only son in the family its my responsibility to look after my parents as i am very much
emotinally attached to them. also there are plenty of good job opportunities in india for
mechanical engineers and they are also quite in demand now. the starting salalry of mechanical
engineers in india is 6 - 7 lakh rupees per annum which after 3 -4 years of experience can
increase to 10 - 12 lac rupees per annum. there are various private public and government
organizations where i would be able to get a decent paying job after completing my studies in
australia. Companies like TATA Motors, Godrej Group, Larson and Tourbo, Thermax are always
looking for competant individuals to work with them.

What job, salary, designation name of company, no of jobs and about the industry:

with an international degree there will be a lot of job oppotunities. I can work as a automotive
engineer, project engineer etc. there are a lot of companies such NVIDIA, Larsen and tourbo
which are looking for automotive engineers. NVIDIA is a well known company around the globe
which offers products like graphics cards for computers and now they are trying to enter in a
new industry of autonomous vehicles and they have also created some concepts and projects of
Autonomous vehicles which im interested in and these projects will be in demand in the future
and they are offering good package of about 10 - 12 lacs rupees per annum.
