Pseudo hermaphrodites – Are formed who are
individuals having accessory reproductive
structures that do not match their gonads.

characteristics resembling those of the other sex
or being ambiguous in nature.

Hermaphrodites – Are individual who possess both ovarian

and testicular tissues but this condition is rare in nature.

usually called eggs

Few of the most common STDs

1. Hepatitis B or HBV - Hepatitis B is a liver

infection caused by the hepatitis B virus
(HBV). Hepatitis B is transmitted when blood,
semen, or another body fluid from a person
infected with the hepatitis B virus enters the body
of someone who is not infected.

2. Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV

Is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more
vulnerable to other infections and diseases. It is spread by contact with certain bodily
fluids of a person with HIV, most commonly during unprotected sex (sex without a
condom or HIV medicine to prevent or treat HIV), or through sharing injection drug
equipment.
3. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or AIDS

AIDS is the late stage of HIV infection that occurs when

the body’s immune system is badly damaged because of
the virus.

4. Human Papillomavirus or HPV

HPV stands for human papillomavirus. It’s the most

common sexually transmitted infection. HPV is usually
harmless and goes away by itself, but some types can lead
to cancer or genital warts.

5. Chlamydia

Is a common sexually transmitted disease. It is caused by

bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. It can infect both
men and women. Women can get Chlamydia in the cervix,
rectum, or throat. Men can get Chlamydia in the urethra
(inside the penis), rectum, or throat.

6. Syphilis

Syphilis is a bacterial infection usually spread by

sexual contact. The disease starts as a painless sore
— typically on your genitals, rectum or mouth.
Syphilis spreads from person to person via skin or
mucous membrane contact with
these sores.
7. Chancroid

Is an infection of the genital skin or mucous membranes caused by Haemophilus

ducreyi and characterized by papules, painful ulcers, and enlargement of the inguinal
lymph nodes leading to suppuration. Diagnosis is usually clinical because culturing
the organism is difficult.

8. Trichomonas Vaginalis

Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasitic protozoan that infects the

urogenital tract of both women and men worldwide. Trichomoniasis,
which is caused by T vaginalis, is the most common sexually
transmitted infection (STI) today, with an annual incidence of more
than 170 million cases worldwide.

9. Gonorrhea

That can infect both men and women. It can cause

infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very
common infection, especially among young people ages
15-24 years.

10. Genital Herpes

Is an STD caused by two types of viruses. The viruses are called

herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus
type 2 (HSV-2).
