Materials: appropriate materials for student chosen project. Four categories include: Stop
Motion Video, Collage, Mixed Media Sculpture, and Digital Ilustration.

Learning Objectives
1. Students will be able to create a piece and present artwork on a natural disaster with their
chosen media in a way that gives the viewer understanding of the events and the importance
of activism in these situations.

2. Students will be able to interpret other’s artwork and determine the success level of the
piece.
3. Students will be able to connect their own artwork and their peer’s artwork to the
environmental events presented and understand the importance of education and activism
surrounding these events.
Anticipatory Set:

Big Idea:
Awareness of current disasters around the globe is important for understanding different
cultures and is crucial part of contributing to the aid of others in need.

Essential Question:
To what extent can natural disasters outside of your community impact your life?

Objective/Purpose:
Students will be able to use DisasterAlert to find a current Natural disaster. Using the
information presented on the app, the student will then be able to create an artistic piece in
one of the given medias to create an understanding and awareness of the event.
