Dear Superintendent Moore and Board Members - Please see my email below to Apex Middle School principal, Monica
Yllanes, and 8th Grade Counselor Strader. Is the Superintendent and current board in support of this "gender identity"
lesson that was taught to children at Apex Middle School? The lesson topic is not in the North Carolina Curriculum
standards for healthful living according to a DPI representative.
Parents would like an apology from principal Yllanes, and assurance that an inappropriate lesson such as this one, will
not happen again.

Thank you,

Parent

Subject: Curriculum Materials Request
To: William Strader _ Staff - ApexMS <wstrader@wcpss.net>, Monica Yllanes _ Staff - ApexMS <myllanes@wcpss.net>

Dear Mr. Strader - Apex Middle School 8th Grade Counselor,

I would like to clarify my materials request from yesterday, for materials presented in Ms. Nancy Graybeal's English
Language Arts class by the outside vendor, InterAct of interactofwake.org on Wednesday October 16, 2019. These
materials were presented to my two sons who are in separate Graybeal classes.

In addition to providing copies of the template with the answers filled in, used by the teachers on the "gingerbread" person
lesson, please also provide me with copies of the materials shared and/or presented by that vendor (Interact) while on
they were on school property. This request includes copies of any teacher materials/templates the Interact
representatives used during the lesson or to prepare for the lesson, or outside of the lesson in other interactions with
students. This request is including but not limited to materials Interact distributed containing images of well-known
homosexual/LGBTQ celebrities, Ellen Degeneres, "Drake," "Beyonce," and others. It is also including but not limited to
any materials supporting the Interact staff statements to the children that many people are going through "gender
journeys" to become a different gender than their born gender.

Please also provide copies of any and all materials that Interact will be sharing with students in future lessons, including
teacher notes/materials.

Lastly, we and many other parents are unhappy that you allowed this organization to teach a "gender identity" lesson to
children at Apex Middle. This topic is NOT in the North Carolina Curriculum standards for middle school healthful living,
contrary to your claim. The fact that "gender identity" is not to be taught under the NC curriculum standards was
confirmed with an NC DPI employee. It is the school's responsibility to ensure that what is being taught to children falls
within the curriculum standards.

Clearly, what was taught to children on October 16, 2019 by InterAct, was not part of state standards, but was a
promotion of homosexuality and "transgender" behavior to children. Interact told children many were on a "gender
journey" to become a different gender than the gender of their birth, and they stated to the kids that's ok. They also told
children that the terms "men" and "women" are outdated stereotypes, and that they should "come out" as themselves
even if it is not as the gender to which they were born.

The InterAct organization had no right to promote this kind of thing to our children, and they (and you) are subverting
parents with this type of lesson. Also, the opt-out permission letter did NOT state that a "gender identity" lesson would be
taught. Parents were deceived by the letter which made no mention of the lesson topic that was really planned. The
lesson was completely unacceptable, and parents request an apology from the principal for the inappropriate lesson.
Also, I requested materials prior to InterAct's arrival date, but those were not provided. You only provided curriculum
materials AFTER they were presented.

Parents request that the principal disallow this entity (InterAct) from returning to Apex Middle School. If you are going to
allow them back, parents request to be allowed to sit in the room to witness their lessons.

Thank you,

Parent
