Calculation of Sample Size

For our research, we have taken into account people of Ahmedabad of age group 18-32 years.
We chose these particular age group because the limitation of availability of data and also people
who fall under the category of OTT (Over the Top) platform users mostly range between this age
group.

For the purpose of calculating the population and sample size, we have referred to the web portal
of Open Government Data (OGD) Platform India. In order to calculate number of OTT platform
users, we have referred to the study undertaken by MICA in 2018.

Calculation of population to be studied:

Assumption:

i. Persons in this age group leaving to other states/countries and persons in this age group
coming from other states/countries are believed to be equal during 2011-2019.
ii. During this time period, people of these age groups have neither migrated nor died.

In 2019, the age group of 10-24 would have turn to 18-32, which is our total population of the
study.

So total population of Ahmedabad in 2019 of age group is:

The gap between 2019 and 2011 is:

2011-2019 = 8 years

Therefore,

10-14 years will turn 18-22 years= 6, 69,168

15-19 years will turn 23-27 years= 6, 79,291

20-24 years will turn 28-32 years= 7, 10,749

So,

Total population of people between the age group of 18-32 years =2,059,208
Calculation of Sample Size:

To find p:

p=OTT users in (18-32) years of age/Total population between 18-32 years of age

=16, 66,907/23, 81,295 =0.7

q= 1-p=1-0.7=0.3
