Course Description & Format

In this modern era shorter life cycles and rising customer expectations have forced businesses to
invest and focus more in supply chains. These changing patterns in business are leading towards
integration of process. These process have lead a continuing advances in communication and
transportation technologies ultimately resulting to continuous evolution of supply chain and
techniques to manage it effectively.
Managing Supply chain is an approach to effectively integrate all the activities in a process so as
to minimize the cost and time. It also facilitates the process towards value addition to satisfy
service level requirements.
This course will include the knowledge of value chains, supply managements and integration of
process for getting optimized resource allocation. It will impart the knowledge of supply chain
management by looking deeper into the concepts of development chain, inventory management,
network planning and value of information in process integration.

Course Instructional Objectives

1. The purpose of this course is to instill the integration process by imparting the knowledge
of managing supply chain through important processes like risk pool game and beer
game.
2. In class exercises and practical case studies will assist to gain the practical knowledge of
managing supply chain
3. This course will teach the decision making process. It will help the participants to
generate quantitative evidence for proper and rational decision making in managing
supply chain.
4. Students will learn the optimization process through computer output for model building
and decision making.

Course Student Objectives

1. Students will learn the basic concepts of managing supply chain and evolution of supply
chain management.
2. This course will impart the concepts of managing uncertainties and risk, inventory and
risk pooling, network planning and supply chain integration
3. Students will be given some practical business scenarios, to demonstrate the real life
scenarios for the functional areas of business which will develop their skills in this
particular area.
4. This course will enable the students to review, interpret, design network planning by
integration of all the business process for better and customer focused business product
and services deliverables.
