Upon the successful completion of this module, the student should be able to demonstrate the
ability to:
1. Critically identify, analyse, evaluate, model and make informed judgements on the
complexity of factors which may contribute to the success or failure of a new venture
including: - human resources and management; management knowledge;
entrepreneurial skills, and development contexts which may contribute to new venture
success or repositioning/change/turnaround.
2. Determine, identify and evaluate the critical tasks, resources and management planning
within new venture life cycles, including the challenges and opportunities faced at each
stage in the life cycle of the venture.

networks.” (Greenberg,D, Sweet, K M and Wilson H.J, 2011, p215).

TASK DESCRIPTION - ASSIGNMENT 2: Presentation paper - worth 50%
BACKGROUND / INTRODUCTION
In your role as a first time entrepreneur, you have to plan your new business start-up in order to attract
investments to get the necessary seed funding for your start-up.
TASKS
You are therefore required to prepare an individual presentation to outline and explain the following to your
investors:
1. The New Venture Concept, the opportunity gaps in the market, and why you are confident that this new
business is feasible. These should be supported with the relevant sources of evidence.
2. Resources requirements for the New Business start-up covering human, financial and other non-financial
resources.
4. Your proposed business model canvas to ensure that the new venture will deliver the expected values to
its target customers.
5. Analyse the challenges that might emerge at each stage in the life cycle of the venture and explain
various leadership, human capital management, and entrepreneurial skills required for the smooth
management of the business at these stages of the venture life cycle.
Students are required to submit a presentation paper based on the above, using slides (not more
than fifteen slides).
NOTE that Turnitin will not accept power point so you must submit your slides as word documents.
Your presentation package should therefore be a combination of the academic/ conceptual insights
(with the relevant academic sources clearly indicated on each of your slides), together with the
practical value of these insights being demonstrated in the context of your business plan.
The submission of your slides package should be organized and clearly structured in a report format.
Total- 15 slides (One slide is equivalent to 200 words - The PowerPoint slides notes facility
can be utilised for backup information etc.)
Maximum word length allowed is 3000 words, excluding words in charts & tables and in the
appendices section of your assignment.
3000 words +/- 10%. Any deviation from this will be penalised.

4. Practical Skills
At level 7, you should be able to demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, together with a
practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and
interpret knowledge in the discipline. This includes acting autonomously in planning and implementing tasks
at a professional or equivalent level, originality in tackling and solving problems, and decision-making in
complex and unpredictable contexts or situations.
You should be able to demonstrate mastery of the leading edge subject-related concepts and ideas as they
relate to real world situations and/or particular contexts. How do they work in practice? You will deploy
models, methods, techniques, and/or theories, in those contexts or circumstances, to assess current
situations, perhaps to formulate plans or plausible, justifiable recommendations to solve problems, or to
propose new models, or to create artefacts, which may be innovative and creative, thereby demonstrating
your understanding of how the boundaries of knowledge are advanced through research and/or application.
This is likely to involve, for instance, the use of real world artefacts, examples and cases, the application of
a model within an organisation and/or benchmarking one theory or organisation against others.
