environments are organized on the Earth’s surface.

• SS 12.3.5 Students will evaluate interrelationships between people and the

environment.
• SS 12.3.6 Students will analyze issues and/or events using the geographic

knowledge and skills to make informed decisions.
• SS 12.3.2.c Analyze the changes in places and regions over time (e.g., migration,
urbanization, fertility and mortality, industrialization)
• SS 12.2.1.c Understand productivity as a measure of the quantity of goods and
services produced with a given amount of resources (e.g., Gross Domestic Product)

• Note Taking: By taking notes students are able to not only listen to the content and
view it, but they are also able to use another sense by reiterating it in their notes.
Student Engagement used throughout the lesson
• I will use the teacher-whole class interaction method during the lecture. Students will
take notes throughout the powerpoint.

• I will use the student-materials interaction method when I have the students
complete a worksheet over the material using their notes.

Students should be aware of the locations of key countries, cities, and geographical features
of Russia. Students should be aware of cultural aspects, historical components, and
architecture in Russia.

Differentiating Instruction

Reading Disability: I will differentiate for the individual with the reading disability by
differentiating the process through allowing frequent breaks, the use of a tape
recorder, and providing instructions orally.

Procedure with time allotments:


A) Hook/Engage/Pre-Assess Students:
- Students will begin the class period by taking a map quiz individually over the
coutries, cities, and geographical features discussed in the prior lesson.

B) Communicate the purpose of the lesson to students (objective/assessment)


- Today we will discuss different facets of the Russian Region including the
changes in Russia over time (e.g., migration, urbanization, fertility and
mortality, industrialization) and the productivy of Russia’s economy.

C) Instructional Sequence:
1. Lecture: Powerpoint Presentation
2. Watch a short video on Peter the Great
3. Complete a worksheet over the material covered on the powerpoint and the video

D) Closure: Re-emphasize the changes in Russia over time and the productivity of
Russia’s economy and remind them there may be a fun assessment at the beginning
of the next class period, so they will need their electronic devices.
