IV.PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Good afternoon class.
presenting the new lesson Good afternoon, ma’am!

Are you ready for today’s lesson?

Yes ma’am.

Then show me that you are ready.

This afternoon, we are going to visualize the ratio of 2 given

number and express ratio in colon or fraction form.

Can I invite 10 volunteers to go in front?

Yes ma’am. **the volunteer pupils will go in front**

Ask the volunteers: Why did you volunteer for this activity?
I want to volunteer and I’m curious about the
activity that we’ll be having this afternoon.

Ask the learners: Do you do household chores voluntarily?

Yes ma’am.

What activities do you do at home without being told by your

mother or father?
Washing dishes, flowering the plants, cooking the rice for dinner,
doing household chores.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Ask the learners the following questions:
a. How many learners can you see in front? Out of these 10
learners, how many are boys? How many are girls?
**pupils answer may vary**

b. In what other ways can we write the relationship between

the number of boys to the number of girls?
We can write the relationship between the number of boys
to the number of girls through its ratio. Ratio is the
comparison of 2 given number. It can be written in the form
of fraction and colon (:)

c. What is the ratio of boys to girls?

6 boys and 4 girls

d. What is the ratio of boys to the total number of volunteers?

6 boys and 10 learners

e. In what other ways can we write these ratios?

(Teacher) We can write these ratios in two form. In colon
(:) and in fraction.

Let us have another example:

The teacher will show the pupils 2 apples and 1 banana.

Are you familiar with these fruits?

Yes ma’am.

Who among you here already ate this fruits?

**some pupils may raise their hands**

What do you think were the benefits of these fruits?

These fruits make us healthy and strong.

There are 2 apples and 1 banana. The ratio of the number of apples
to the number of banana is 2:1. We read 2:1 as 2 to 1. The ratio
gives the number of objects in each set. This means that there are 2
units of apples to a unit of banana.

C. Presenting Examples/ instances of the Study the pictures below and answer the given questions.
new lesson

Guide questions:

1. What is the ratio of to ? 3:5

2. What is the ratio of to ? 4:5

3. What is the of to ? 3:4

4. What is the ratio of to the total number of animals?
4:12

5. What is the ratio of to the total numbers of animals?

5:12
6. What is the ratio of to the total number of animals?
3:12

7. Can we simplify ratios?

Yes.

8. How can we simplify the ratio 3:12? (Note that we can

simplify ratio like how we simplify fraction)

9. Can we compare more than 2 quantities?

Yes.

10. What did you observe from the animals?

These animals are found in our community.
These animals undergo internal and external fertilization.

Very good!

11. How did they reproduce their offspring?

They undergo sexual reproduction.

Nice answer!

12. What animals undergoes internal fertilization?

Dogs and carabaos.

13. What animal undergoes external fertilization?

Fishes.

Very good! I’m happy that you can still remember the
process of reproduction in animals.

During the process of answering the guide questions, the teacher

explains the proper way of writing the ration in two forms – colon
and fraction form.

D. Discussing new concepts and Individual Activity

practicing new skills #1 We will be having an activity. It is called “Pop It”.
I have here a box containing balloons with different colors. Inside
the balloon are questions that you need to answer in front. You are
going to identify if the color of the balloon is primary or secondary
color. Raise your hand if you want to answer. Then, if you’re
answer is correct, you are going to go in front of the class, pop the
balloon, and visualize the ratio written in the piece of paper inside
the balloon by writing it in colon or fraction form.

This time, let us read the statement altogether.

Barangay Mapagbigay would like to donate seedlings of fruit-

bearing trees to support the tree-planting activity of Grade 5
pupils. The officials prepared 20 dalandan seedlings, 15 lanzones
seedlings, 25 coconut seedlings, and 10 makopa seedlings. If there
are five Grade 5 sections, what is the ratio of each fruit seedling to
the five sections? Find the ratio of makopa to dalandan, lanzones to
coconut, and makopa to lanzones. Write the ratios both in colon
and fraction form.
Present the table in class to organize the facts into ratios.

Statement Form Colon Form Fraction

Form
Dalandan seedlings to sections
Lanzones seedlings to section
Coconut seedlings to section
Makopa seedlings to sections
Makopa to dalandan
Lanzones to coconut
Makopa to lanzones

The teacher will process the answer for each statement.

After the activity, the teacher asks the learners to do the “Very
Good Clap”.

E. Discussing new concepts and Group activity

practicing new skills #2 We will be having another activity but this time, it is a group
activity.

You are going to visualize the ratio together with your groupmates.
Each group will receive an envelope and inside it is the instructions
and materials that you need for this activity.

But before we proceed, what are the standards in conducting a

group activity?
Respect the opinion of your groupmates.
Be cooperative.
Behave while doing an activity.
Do not go to the area of other groups.

Nice answer! It’s good that you know the standards in doing an
activity and as a teacher, I expect you to apply it.

You will be having an area for this activity. You already know your
area, right?
Yes maam.

These are the area for each group.

You have five minutes to do the activity. After five minutes, choose
a representative to present your output in front. Understand?
Yesn ma’am.

Very good! You may start now.

Group 1
Write each ratio in colon and in fraction form.
