 Assist Kalai to review Soil Geological Profile drawing.
 Have a short discussion with Mussadiq on Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) – ground improvement
method used at East West Link Highway.
o DSM is a significant improvement of mechanical and physical properties of existing
soil, after mixing with cement. The stabilized soil material produced is generally high
in strength, lower permeability and lower compressibility compared to the native soil.

 Prepare new mix design for High Density Slurry mix by using varying Fines/Water Volume
ratio and fixed slurry volume.
 Testing lab with new mix design for 1.6𝑔/𝑐𝑚3 HDLS with sodium silicate:
o Fines/Water ratio of: 1.3, 1.3 and 1.1.
o Variation of 10ml 𝑁𝑎2 𝑆𝑖𝑂3 dosing.
 The result was showing the mixtures are too dry and porous.
 Calvin briefed on interval time for concrete truck order, factors in consideration are:
o Travel time
o Discharge method (ex: Sky pump/pressure pump, concrete bucket and direct
discharge)
o Site setup
 Site visit to South Station: Calvin briefed about diaphragm wall, cement batching plant and
fissure grouting at Intervention Block (IB).
 Concreting base slab with Calvin
o 0.7m3 bucket of concrete is used to discharge the concrete.
o It takes around 4 minutes for 1 cycle of transportation of concrete from concrete
track to the construction base.
o Learn time estimation to order concrete mixing from batching plant.

o Blasting site will be closed during the blasting time and all personnel wull be

 Rising head test at EWL:
o A rising-head test is initiated by rapidly lowering the water level in the control well
and then taking measurements of the rising water level in the well. Baildown test
and slug-out test are alternate terms for rising-head test.
 Coring: UCS and Triaxial test is to be conducted by Keller to obtain stiffness and strength
parameters for coring samples.
 Understand the current EWL drawings.
 Understand the authority land work for EWL.
 Permit is needed from DBKL in order to do work at EWL highway.
 Refer to specification document, IFC drawing or method statement for any works on site.

 Safety inspection at concourse level BMNS station box with Safety Team:
o Safety Tag must be constantly inspected for every 7 days.
o PTW is required for 10 specific work which requires renewal every:
 7 days for excavation, working at height and piling works.
 3 days for working near/above water and night work
 1 day/per-entry for confined space, hot work cutting/grinding/welding,
electrical works (exceed 600v) and blasting works.
 Safety Issue:
o Void protection in excavation area should be barricaded and no one is allowed to
enter that area including site supervisor.
o Excavation work due to construction of sump pit at concourse level should also be
barricaded.
o Remove or seal lifting hook on backhoe bucket with safety latch to prevent
unauthorized lifting.
o Electrical cable must be hang 2m above from the ground.

method used at East West Link Highway.
o DSM is a significant improvement of mechanical and physical properties of existing
soil, after mixing with cement. The stabilized soil material produced is generally high
in strength, lower permeability and lower compressibility compared to the native soil.
