Scope and Purpose

This document provides software release information on supported functionality, compatibility, and known
customer affecting issues, relating to the released software versions.
The intended users of this document are:
• Aviat Networks Customers
• Aviat Networks Product Support staff
• Aviat Networks Field Service staff

Introduction

Software 08.05.08 is a GA release. It is built off 08.04.41.

New Features:

• RAC7X ANSI 30/40/50/60/80MHz Profiles

• RAC7X ETSI 7/14/28/40/56MHz Profiles
• IRU600v3/v4 and ODU600v1/v2 ANSI profiles 20MHz and 25Mhz for FCC only
• RAC 70 + ODUv2 ETSI Profile 3.5MHz 16QAM
• ODU600v1/v2 and IRU600v3/v4 ANSI profiles 3.75/5MHz up to 256QAM
• RAC60 with IRU 600 V4 5.8/L6/U6/FCC7/11GHz SP/HP/EHP

Software Version Upgrade Compatibility

The following previous software versions support direct upgrade to this new release:

08.00.52 08.00.72 08.00.99 08.01.20 08.01.26 08.02.08 08.02.08 08.02.18 08.02.19

08.02.22 08.02.23 08.02.24 08.02.27 08.02.29 08.03.21 08.03.43 08.03.44
08.04.41

Releases in bold italic have been specifically tested, others, although not specifically tested, are assumed to
work by association.

Note:
• The use of backplane only ethernet traffic in a protected configuration is not recommended.
Using a protected 1+1 RAC70 set up configured to use ethernet backplane traffic, a 2-15second traffic
hit may be expected after a TX switch. This situation is seen up to 50% of the time. Workaround is to
configure only DPP traffic.
• RAC70 + PE: It is essential that no profile change is made when Payload Encryption is enabled. If a
change of profile is required (channel bandwidth change) PE must first be disabled. After the change
it can be enabled again. If a profile change is made while PE is enabled the radio will freeze and will
need a power cycle to restore operation. Do not use remote configuration to select a new profile at the
far end, deploy a technician at either end of the link to make the profile change, with PE disabled, then
enable PE again at both ends.
• CF Flash Size: Note this software requires a 512Mb or larger CF to be installed

Please contact Aviat Technical Support if validation is required for direct upgrade from earlier software versions
to this release.

Windows 10 Operation
If using Windows 10 and using IPv6 addresses and connecting directly to the NCC, the PC / Laptop will not get
a IP address.

Windows 32bit CPU Operation

Note only 64bit CPU Windows software is contained on the CD, a 32bit version is available to download from
the AviatCare site.
**Note: Upgrading from 8.0 to this release, DHCP netmask configuration missing

If the current software is 8.0 and is being upgraded to this release, note that the DHCP netmask configuration will be
lost. This may cause connectivity issues with PCs connected to an Eclipse front panel NMS port in the case where the
Eclipse terminal is configured as a DHCP server. The workaround to correct this fault is to upgrade to 08.01.20 or later

and reconfigure the network Ethernet address and mask in Portal. This problem does not exist on releases prior to
8.0. Upgrading from 8.0 to any later release does not affect traffic or network settings. This problem was addressed in
the 08.01.20 release.

show.

Eclipse Hardware Supported

The following table details the hardware that is supported by this software and corresponding part numbers. It
is still possible to software load to a terminal with a non-supported INU or ODU attached, but the software in the
module will not be updated. For example, modules such as RAC10 will function without problem after loading
this release, even though no new code exists in this software version for these old modules.

Known Issues
The following table lists known issues that have not been fixed in this release. Blue added for this release

Ref # Issue Description

IRU 600: No Power Supply Input Failure alarm on the IRU 600 high power RFU. A TX
Power Failure alarm will occur if a valid DC input is not present on the RFU front panel DC
ES-13267 input connector, when the correct description should be a input power failure. This may
result in an incorrect diagnosis of the real problem. If a TX Power Failure alarm is present,
first check the RFU power supply voltage.
RAC 60/6X: Protection, Offline RAC removal is not errorless with several capacities. TDM
ES13994 traffic is hit when removing the off-line RAC with the following ETSI profiles: 7MHz,
13.75MHz and 27.5MHz.
RAC 60/6X: IRU600 30MHz/128QAM/OC3 : Protection switching times may exceed
ES-14546 200mS approximately 2% of switching occurrences. This is caused by the specific timing
of an RFU Alarm during switch cycles. Note that the total average switching time is 25ms.
ODU 300 SP: Tx Fail alarm comes up and RAC front panel LEDs go red when placed in
ES-15029 IF Loopback with SP ODUs EQS-XX-XXXX-XXX identified by the serial number starting
BLBxxxxxxxx . Alarm only seen during IF Loopback.
Basic Security : When running software version 5.2 or earlier with the basic security
enabled (this requires a user name and password to login into Portal) if the software is
subsequently upgraded to version 5.04 or later the user needs to be aware that
passwords for "operator", "engineer", and "admin" user levels will be reset to default
ES-16214 values (port_op, port_eng, port-adm correspondingly) after the upgrade. Ensure the
security mode and passwords to are reconfigured to the desired values after the upgrade.
This is one time action. Further upgrades to subsequent software releases will not reset
passwords. Provision can be used to automate this reconfiguration process across many
radios if needed.
IDU GE3 16x: Protection - Tx and Rx, Ethernet and TDM switch on ODU Cable removal
ES-17790
can exceed 50ms (Average 90ms, Max 150ms)
RAC 60/6X: 1+1 ACM mode: In a 1+1 ACM setup, if the RX Online is separately faded to
DNL and the Offline Demod remains locked (using the Offline diversity data), removing
the Offline diversity RX Source (by ODU cable removal or RAC removal) does not result
ES-17933
in the Online RX stepping its modulation down so that it locks up. Therefore, traffic is lost
until the Online RX unfades enough to lock up at its current RX modulation, or the
connection to the Offline radio is restored.
ES-19049 ODU 600: 7MHz and 14MHz ACM profiles for RAC30A take errors and sync losses
DAC GEv2 / RWPR: RWPR protection fails when link is slowly faded and un-faded. If a
link is slowly faded then un-faded, prescribed RSTP forwarding and blocking action can
be unreliable where 'Rapid Failure Detection and Protection' is selected as the Transport
ES-19138
Channel Mode. This can be prevented by selecting 'Rapid Failure Detection' as the
Transport Channel Mode. Only use 'Rapid Failure Detection and Protection' for L1LA and
Adaptive Modulation operation.
IDU GE3 16x profiles : Some will occasionally show a brief RX DNL or error burst at the
ES-20191 local RX if the local TX is unmuted when using the Tx Mute Diagnostic command. Seen
on 56MHz ACM: 256Q-MG, 256Q-MT profiles, but may affect others.
ES-20960 Rebooting the NCC with an NPC fitted can cause an outage on NCM Loop Switch
RAC60/6x: Traffic is not restored after re-inserting a protected RAC60/6x that has been
ES-21402 manually locked to "Tx online". Workaround is to not lock a RAC to "Tx online" with DPP
enabled in a hot unplug scenario as traffic will be affected. Lock both Tx and Rx to online
L1LA DAC GE3 protected config: DACGE3 can drop frames for a short duration when it
ES-21423
comes back up after re-insertion
In band NMS does not work when DAC GEv3 is in slot 9. Slots 1-8 perform as expected

DAC 155om to DAC GE3 circuits : Container alarms can be seen on power cycling and
configuration changes. Complete traffic loss is very occasionally observed when
ES-22861
changing the modes from E1 to DS1 and vice versa.
Alarms are cleared if the cards are unplugged and plugged
Loop Switch: After replacing a DAC DS3M card with an NCM, the NCM card is recognized
ES-22962 but never finishes to load software. Workaround is to insert a DAC16x into the slot, and
then replace it with an NCM
RAC 30V3 / RAC 30V2: When configuring a protected RF link using one RAC 30V3 and
one RAC 30V2 in a node, and where the node’s NCC card had previously held
configurations using RAC 60/6X/60E/60XE, it is occasionally seen that the RAC 30
protected pair becomes un-configurable in Portal. When this happens, the RF link fails to
ES-23040
come up, Portal disallows setting the Bandwidth / Modulation setting, and a Configuration
Not Supported alarm appears. The easiest field workaround is to replace one RAC card in
an affected protected pair so they are either both RAC 30V3 or both RAC 30V2, then
attempt configuration again.
RAC 30v3 to RAC 30A link: All DS1/ DS3 profiles and ETSI 3.5MHz 16QAM 10Mbps
(5E1) profile fail to operate and give a Link Down Alarm. All other 11 ETSI profiles that
ES-23043
are common between RAC 30V2 and RAC 30v3 function correctly.
Workaround is to not use these profiles on RAC 30V3 / RAC 30A links
NCM: The NCM ships with 07.03.31 software , if this module is inserted into a chassis
running earlier software such as 07.00.41 and then is upgraded to 07.03.32 or later the
ES-23080
NCM will fail to recover. The workaround is to upgrade the chassis to the latest 07.03
software before inserting the NCM
DAC GE3 : SSM over L1LA, after configuring a DAC GE3 / RAC60/6X in a L1LA
ES-23081
configuration it needs a power cycle before SSM operates correctly.
L1LA: The Status LED of the NE or FE RAC becomes red after unplug/plug. No alarm is
ES-22990
generated in Portal. Not traffic affecting ,to resolve unplug and re-insert RAC card
DAC GE3: Ethernet Traffic does not pass through the backplane for some 60/80 MHz
ES-24089 /
ES-24165
profiles. Using the backplane for Ethernet traffic at these bandwidths is not recommended
and the expected use for 60 & 80 MHz profiles is to use the DPP ports.
IPv6: Eclipse sw loading through a FTP server (Provision) is not possible if using
ES-25142
ODU300EP in the network, as 300EP will not recognise IPv6 addresses
Strong Security: It should be noted that one or more of the following cipher suites should
be enabled before an upgrade to 8.1 is attempted in strong/FIPS security modes:

TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
ES-25295
Strong Security users please note. The following four OpenSSL ciphers are now seen as
less secure than when first released and are therefore recommended not to be used:
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA

DAC GE3 Protected: After sw upgrade from 07.03.56 to 08.01.19/.20, Portal shows
"Error Merging values, Primary & Secondary do not match" in OAM tab.
Sometimes after a software upgrade, Portal may show the message "Error merging
ES-24201
values, Primary and Secondary do not match" in the OAM tab of the DAC plugin.
Workaround: To eliminate this phantom error, untick and tick the Ports in the OAM tab
without clicking the 'Send' button.
DAC GE3 : Switching times can exceed 1 second when testing protection switching using
ES-25625
a Y Cable and pulling the on-line feed. Single feed gives superior results
DAC GE3 : Increased on-line traffic switching times when DAC GE3 port speed is set to
ES-25576
Auto, use fixed rates if possible as they are faster
IRU600V3 :Possible to experience more than 1 second switching time on first Protection
Switch after reboot (RIPS, ODU Failure, Tx Manual Switch, Tx Mute). For subsequent
ES-25493 switches, it switches less than 200mS. Note only seen after a reboot or power up.
Workaround is to force an initial switch if possible after a reboot or power cycle. Possible
fix planned.

ES-25718 RAC ART settings are automatically removed after removing multicast circuits from the
same RAC.
When ART mode is set to receive, and ART output is set to DPP, the ART configuration
will be cleared after a multicast circuit between the RAC ART and DAC GE3 is removed, it
will be necessary to reconfigure ART for the RAC

ES-27016 RAC 70/RAC 60: PE usage while DPP is oversubscribed can cause a long DPP outage.
To recover from this condition, reduce the DPP load so it is not oversubscribed, or at the
affected RAC, perform a Demod unlock/lock.

ES-27054 ODU600v2: NMS connection goes down after connecting ODU600v2 if a firmware load is
initiated
1 to 2 minutes after a firmware update the NMS will go down. Portal shows Unknown
ODU on RAC object page.
After approximately 15 minutes, NMS connection is restored, and Portal will show
ODU600v2 on the RAC objects page. ODU600v2 has a firmware file 10x larger than
ODU600v1 and subsequently takes longer to load and affects other Eclipse functions.
Subsequent connections of a ODU600v2 with firmware equal or higher than the version in
the embedded SW will connect within a few seconds as expected.

ES-26867 RAC 70: 1+1 - (w/ DPP disabled) Single near-end RX fading causes a false far-end Silent
Tx Failure alarm & switching. In 1+1 mode, when NOT using DPP (just backplane
Ethernet or TDM or both), there is a situation that results in the remote (Far-End) Online
TX to have a FALSE Silent Tx Failure alarm. The silent TX alarm will then cause a TX
switch and then the newly online TX will show the silent TX alarm and then TX switch and
that sequence will continue indefinitely. Workaround is to enable any capacity on the DPP

ES-26232 RAC70 1+1 Backplane Note: The use of backplane only ethernet traffic in a protected
configuration is not recommended. Using a protected 1+1 RAC70 set up configured to
use ethernet backplane traffic, a 2-15second traffic hit may be expected after a TX switch.
This situation is seen up to 50% of the time. Workaround is to configure only DPP traffic.

ES-27233 ANSI 3.75MHz: Profile can occasionally not set. Occurrence is rare, but if this condition is
& ES-27202 experienced, power cycle the INU and retry.
ES-27261 RAC60E (EXR-660-002) and DAC161v3 (EXD-161-002) If a chassis is set up without a
ODU / IRU connected communication drops (Maintenance v24 and network) and INU can
rebooting itself. Workaround is to connect an ODU or IRU to the RAC and the problem is
not seen.
ES-27294 RAC 70 L1LA: Frame size failure, if using 1024QAM. Workaround is to limit modulation
to 512QAM, this limitation will be removed in 8.6 release SW
ES-27292 RAC60/70: If a RAC60/6X is upgraded to a RAC70/7X Output power will show -100dB
down on modulations QPSK and 16QAM. To rectify this, perform a slot ‘Clear Module
Configuration’ in Portal. NOTE that if any such major change is made, the old slot config
should always be cleared. Current RAC’s and DACGE3 / NCM all store configuration data
in an onboard flash that should always be cleared before a change in module type.

Important Considerations Before Upgrading Software

In this release there are several software upgrade and compatibility considerations that should be noted and
procedures followed to ensure a reliable upgrade with minimum traffic interruption as follows:
Strong Security : It should be noted that one or more of the following cipher suites
should be enabled before an upgrade to 8.1 is attempted in strong/FIPS security modes:

TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
SSL_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA

ES-25295 Strong Security users please note. The following four OpenSSL ciphers are now seen
as less secure than when first released and are therefore recommended not to be used:
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
• TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
• SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA

They are still listed in Eclipse SW and normal operation is supported when any of these
ciphers are selected. In a future release Aviat will remove these four DHE ciphers.
Portal : A PC with a pre 5.3 version of Portal will not be able to communicate with a radio
that has been configured for secure management (Basic or Strong), until it has
acquired a 5.3 version of Portal.
ES-14902
The easiest way to update to a 5.3 version of Portal is to connect your Portal PC
to an Eclipse radio running version 5.3, with its security setting configured to
"none".
Portal: This note applies to customers who run software version 5.1 or earlier with basic
security enabled (requiring a user name and password to login in Portal) and who
decided to upgrade to software version 5.4 or later. The customer shall be aware
that passwords for "operator", "engineer", and "admin" users will be reset to
default values (port_op, port_eng, port-adm correspondingly) after the upgrade. In
some cases security mode will be also turned to "Off".
ES-16214
This happens starting version 5.4 the way how Eclipse stores password has been
changed to meet more strict FIPS 140-2 security requirements.
Customer shall reconfigure security mode and passwords to desired values after
the upgrade.
This is one time action. Further upgrades to subsequent software releases will not
reset passwords.
Portal: Software 5.4 and later changed RADIUS server value for "View" permission. It is
ES-16346
important that customers upgrading from 5.3 to 5.4 update their RADIUS server

user accounts. Failure to update RADIUS server accounts will result in Eclipse
denying PCR data download for users, who have only "View" permission.

Eclipse NCC Compact Flash Card Capacity Upgrade Issues

With the introduction of software LA 7.1 and later, the embedded software portion will no longer fit onto a pre
week 31, 2009 32 Mb partitioned card, irrespective of the module load.
Please ensure that the notes below are followed before a software upgrade to 7.1 or above.

The Compact Flash (CF) card for Eclipse holds configuration, software load, and license data. It inserts into the
side of the NCC plug-in used with the INU/INUe.
New plug-in modules, such as the RAC 60, RAC 6X,DAC GE3 and NCM, CF cards with an increased
memory capacity of 512Mb or greater are required and in some case new NCC cards.
Prior to July 2009, 32 Mbyte was the available capacity for Eclipse use (this is the internal partition size
programmed into the CF), and all CF cards were partitioned 32 Mb regardless of the labelled total capacity of
the CF.
NCC cards manufactured before January 2008 do not support access to CF cards partitioned larger than
32Mbyte.

Before installing RAC 60, RAC 6X or DAC GE3 in an existing INU you must first check to see if a higher
capacity CF card is needed, and if so, that the NCC will also support the higher capacity CF.

Compact Flash Capacity

If newer modules such as the RAC 60E, RAC 6XE, DAC GE3 or NCM are installed in INUs with a 32 Mbyte CF,
FPGA loading problems will be reported as a result of insufficient CF capacity. The problem will be reported as
an FPGA software load failure alarm.
INUs fitted with these newer modules and software 7.1 or later will require an un-partitioned CF card of 512Mb
or greater to function correctly.
When ordering a replacement CF, the licensed capacity plus any feature license(s) held on the existing CF
must be included with the order for the replacement. It is recommended that new NODE Based licenses are
used.
Compact Flash Compatibility with NCC
NCC cards manufactured before January 2008 will not operate correctly with CF cards that have an available
capacity greater than 32 Mbyte.
Where the CF is to be replaced to allow INU operation with newer modules, you must also check to see if the
NCC will support its use.
Compatible NCC modules are those with revision numbers equal to or higher than those shown in the table
below. Compatible NCCs can also be identified by an “A” label on the flash card holder. Supply commenced in
January 2008.

Scheduling Software Upgrades

Software updates should be activated during a maintenance window when a traffic outage can be managed.
Traffic may be affected when upgrading software between two specific versions of software. Modules that have
updated FPGA software will suffer a momentary loss of traffic. The use of Provision feature 'Scheduled
Activation' to preload software, and schedule upgrades at low traffic times of the day will help minimize
disruption. Contact an Aviat Networks Technical Help Desk for details, contact details are on page 2 of these
release notes.

When upgrading software ensure the remote end of a link is upgraded before the local end.

Other Important Notes

• Note when ODU 300 EP is present in the terminal, an IPv4 address is required for software loading.
• Care should be taken not to run OSPF and Static routing within the same internal OSPF routing domain.

• If Portal loses communication with an IDU 300 SP radio when changing the IP address, restart Portal to
restore communication.

• Disable any PC firewalls before performing a software download.

• Eclipse Portal Software version 5.0 includes an upgrade to Java version 6.0. This later version of Java
provides improved memory management and operational performance. It provides a fix for occasional low
memory issues that have been reported on heavily loaded systems. It is recommended that users install
Eclipse Portal 5.0 or later from the Eclipse SW Setup CD or from the Aviat Networks Customer Online
Support site at www.support.aviatnetworks.com.
The note below, seen on Portal screens, relates to this issue.

• Note that this software includes open source items and as such users have a right to access source code.
