RE: Mayors Support the Solar Investment Tax Credit

Dear Members of Congress,

Mayors across the country increasingly support renewable energy. The communities we serve,
including residents and local businesses, have seen the rewards of investing in technology like
solar. Year after year, we have seen the number of solar installations grow in our towns and
cities. Adoption of renewable energy has accelerated as a result of policies such as the Investment
Tax Credit, which has made it possible for more people, in more places, to choose solar energy
and lower electricity bills.
Nationally, solar energy is an American success story. There are now more than 2 million solar
installations, and “solar installer” is ranked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics as one of the fastest
growing jobs in the country. More jobs and lower energy costs are good for everyone, from people
in the smallest towns to the largest cities.
As elected officials, just like us, you understand the need to support the well-being of your
constituents with a strong local economy. Solar energy is a low-cost solution that saves our
residents money on their electricity bills and provides well-paying job opportunities in our
communities, all while helping keep our environment clean.
Local governments, state legislatures, and policymakers in Washington must work together to do
what’s best for the people we serve. Since 2006, the ITC has created more than 200,000 jobs and
$140 billion in private investment in the United States. For the growth of our local economies, we
need this momentum to continue.
We appreciate your consideration and urge you to promptly extend the ITC by passing HR3961
and S2289.
