TRIMBLE ACTIVE TRACK 360 TARGET

FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROCEDURES

Introduction
This support bulletin contains information about the Trimble ActiveTrack 360 Target firmware update
process. In a newly purchased target, the current version of Trimble ActiveTrack 360 firmware is already
installed from the factory. However, if you have a target from prior to April 2015, then you will need to
perform this update process to enable functionality such as the Bluetooth and eBubble.

Upgrading from a previous version of firmware

If you have a Trimble ActiveTrack 360 Target running an older version of firmware, you can upgrade to
version A1.12.17 yourself by following these instructions.

To upgrade your Trimble ActiveTrack 360 Target, you must first install the ActiveTrack Firmware update
program:
1. Download the file ActiveTrack 360 FW Upgrade Setup.zip from
http://www.trimble.com/globalTRLTAB.asp?nav=Collection-111770
2. Unzip the ActiveTrack 360 FW Upgrade Setup.zip
3. Run the extracted setup.exe file.
4. At this point the program is installed and ready for use.

To Upgrade the Firmware on your Trimble ActiveTrack 360 Target to Version A1.12.17:
1. Download the latest version of Firmware A1.12.17 from
http://www.trimble.com/globalTRLTAB.asp?nav=Collection-111770 and save it to a convenient
location on your office computer.
2. Start the ActiveTrack FW Upgrade program by using the icon on the desktop:

 Alternatively the program can be accessed via the start menu: Start Menu->Trimble AB->AT360-
>ActiveTrack FW Upgrade.

3. Power off the ActiveTrack 360 Target.

4. Connect a hirose 6-pin to PC USB cable (part number 73840001 or 738140019) from the target
connector to a USB port on the office computer.
5. Power up the target while holding the channel selector button pressed.

HOLD DOWN THEN

POWER ON

6. The channel LEDs 5,6,7,8 will be activated and LED 4 will flash.

 7. Press the “Upgrade firmware on ActiveTrack 360” button

8. Select the DFU file you downloaded in Step 1 to upgrade.

o E.g. Trimble_AT360_FWupdate_A1.12.17.dfu
9. The upgrade will start.
10. If the upgrade was successful a message box will show:

12. Disconnect the target.
13. Power the target off and then on again.
14. The upgrade is completed.

Troubleshooting
 The Firmware update failed dialog appears

o Make sure the Target is in DFU-mode. LEDs 5,6,7,8 activated and LED 4 flash.

 o Make sure the computer has installed the DFU driver. Open Start Menu->Devices and
Printers. A STM32 DFU Device shall be installed. If an unknown device appears right click
it and update the driver. The driver is available via Microsoft over the internet.

Using the Trimble ActiveTrack 360 Target with other Trimble Products

Trimble ActiveTrack 360 firmware version A1.12.17 is compatible with the following Trimble survey field
software.
 Trimble Access 2015.10 or later.

IMPORTANT: This version of Trimble ActiveTrack 360 firmware is not compatible with versions of Trimble
survey field software older than those listed above.

Controllers delivered at the same time as a new instrument will already have the latest versions installed.
Older controllers that you already own might need to be upgraded to their latest versions. Note that this
will require a valid software warranty agreement for the Trimble survey field software. Please contact your
local Trimble representative for more information regarding software warranties.

Please check the release notes for the respective Trimble survey office software for more specific product
information.

Trimble always recommends that customers regularly check www.trimble.com for the latest versions of
software and firmware for all of their Trimble products.

New Features / Enhancements

The Trimble ActiveTrack 360 firmware version A1.12.17 includes the following new features and
enhancements:
-Initial Firmware release for the Trimble ActiveTrack 360.
-Supports Bluetooth connection to Trimble Access Field software
-Supports eBubble functionality
