2. Linkage-I Basic Eukaryotic Chromosome Mapping
Back ground, the discovery of linkage, recombination frequency, linkage symbolism,
linkage of genes on X-chromosomes, linkage maps, interference, detection and estimation in
various organisms, LOD score method for estimating recombination frequency.
3. Linkage-II Special Eukaryotic Mapping Techniques
Genetic Mapping, Genetic Mapping in a Threepoint Testcross, Genetic Mapping in Human,
Mapping by tetrad Analysis, Calculation of map distance
4. Gene Mutations
Types of Mutation, The Molecular Basis of Mutation, Somatic and germinal mutations,
Spontaneous Mutation, Mutagens. Mutagens. Mutagens in genetic disorders. Biological repair
mechanism.
5. Recombination in Bacteria and Viruses Bacterial
Bacterial Genetics, DNA-Mediated Transformation, Conjugation, Transduction,
bacterophage genetics, transformations, Lysogeny and Specialized Transduction.
6. Population Genetics
Gene frequencies, conservation of gene frequencies, equilibrium, Hardy – Weinberg law,
factors affecting gene equilibrium.

1. Numerical problems related to gene mapping , gene frequencies
2. Culture technique
3. Study of mitosis and meiosis by smear/ squash method and from prepared slides.
4. Identification of DNA in plant material. Carmine, orcein staining.
5. Study of chromosome morphology and variation in chromosome number.
6. Extraction and isolation of DNA from plant sources.
