Giving

2019 Catalog
Your Community
The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Hancock County. We do
this by partnering with donors like you who are passionate about our community. Since our beginning in 1992, your philan-
thropic investments have grown significantly and enabled The Community Foundation to grant more than $54 million for
the benefit of Hancock County.

With this catalog, it is our goal to introduce you to some of the funds at the Foundation that benefit organizations, caus-
es, and students in our community. This year we want to highlight four funds in particular for causes you told us are
important.

Community Community Mental Community Community

Housing Fund Health Fund Transportation Fund Workforce Fund
In 2017, the Foundation partnered with United Way to host Community Conversations. These meetings brought together
more than 1,000 Hancock County residents to discuss the state of our community. From those conversations, four focus
areas were identified: housing, mental health/substance use, transportation and workforce development. The Commu-
nity Foundation is committed to prioritizing these areas in our grantmaking. We created three of the funds above for the
community to support, as well as added to the existing Community Mental Health Fund.

Grants from these funds will go toward community-wide projects that work to make change in these important areas.

Your Philanthropy
In addition to this catalog, The Community Foundation offers donors a variety of ways to impact their community. We
have helped thousands of donors accomplish their philanthropic goals by working with them in an individualized ap-
proach. Our approach has three primary focuses: you, your family, your community.

You and your family can support your community in two ways through the Spirit of Giving:

Give to your passions Give in honor or in memory

This catalog features more than 300 funds in What better way to a honor a person important to
several interest areas. These funds support thou- you than through a gift to a cause or organization
sands of people in our community every year. that’s important to them?

Is there a cause or organization near and dear to your heart that you don’t see listed in this catalog?

If giving through this catalog doesn’t fit with your philanthropy, we can help you find ways to support what you care about
during the giving season, such as an IRA charitable rollover, a Donor Advised Fund, or many others customizable to you.
Your Foundation
We focus on two major ways for you to partner with us. You can choose to invest in one or both of these options when
giving. Both approaches allow donors to make great impact in different ways:

Our Community’s Endowment (pages 3-4) ensures Hancock County will always have philanthropic resources to ad-
dress future needs and opportunities. When you invest in Funds for the Common Good and Field of Interest Funds, you
are growing our Community’s Endowment. Together, we can achieve the greatest possible impact for our community.

Donor-Directed Funds (pages 5-9) enables donors to accomplish their philanthropic dreams by investing in Donor Ad-
vised Funds, Scholarships, Agency Endowments, Designated Funds and Supporting Organizations. These customizable
options allow donors to start their own legacy.

Through your Foundation, you can give to almost any area of interest. We can work with you and your professional advi-
sor to create a plan that makes the most of your giving while accomplishing your goals.

Here are a few of the many ways your gifts have improved the quality of life in Hancock County:

Enhancing strategic thinking for Van Buren students by Investing in opportunities for local students. In 2019,
challenging them to design environmentally friendly cities. $363,800 in scholarships awarded to 200 students.

Building lifelong skills in the 4-H program and Junior Fair Introducing students to manufacturing careers with the
through project management, showing and more. Dream It! Do It! program of Raise the Bar.
Our Community’s Endowment
As you consider the organizations you will share with this holiday, we invite you to include the broader causes in
our community that may align with your passions. A gift to any of the funds listed below will enable the staff of
your Community Foundation to respond to the needs of Hancock County as they arise.
