7th Grade Standards Wound Forward and Back

7.1 The student will read and notate music, including


1. identifying melodic patterns containing steps, skips, and leaps;
F: Identify the type of step, skip or leap.
B: Identifying leaps, but not skips.
2. notating melodies on the treble staff and/or bass staff;
F: Compose a melody and write it on both staffs.
B: Can only notate singular pitches.
3. reading melodic patterns using the diatonic scale; and
F: Read melodic patterns with chromatics.
B: Read melodic patterns with the pentatonic scale.
4. reading and notating rhythmic patterns that include sixteenth notes, dotted notes, and
corresponding rests.
F: Reading and notating patterns with thirty-second notes and corresponding
rests.
B: Reading and notating patterns with eighth notes that are not dotted.

7.2 The student will perform a varied repertoire of music, including


1. demonstrating acceptable performance behaviors;
F: Performs with expression in front of a crowd.
B: Can perform with some extraneous movement.
2. singing or playing music written in two or more parts; and
F: Sing or Play 3 Part Music
B: Sing or Play in Unison
3. playing melodies and accompaniments written on the treble staff and/or bass staff.
F: Improvises melodies and accompaniments on treble and/or bass staff.
B: Plays melodies or accompaniments by rote.

7.3 The student will play music of increasing levels of difficulty on a variety of pitched and
unpitched instruments.
F: Improvises music on both pitched and unpitched instruments.
B: Plays music on only unpitched instruments.

7.4 The student will perform rhythmic patterns that include sixteenth notes, dotted notes, and
corresponding rests.
F: Perform rhythmic patterns that include thirty-second notes and rests.
B: Perform rhythmic patterns that include eighth notes.
7.5 The student will respond to music with movement by
1. using movement to illustrate musical styles; and
F: Creates movement to illustrate a certain musical style of their choosing.
B: Uses movements to illustrate limited musical styles.
2. using choreography to interpret aspects of musical expression.
F: Creates choreography to interpret musical expression of a piece.
B: Uses choreography to respond to music.

7.6 The student will create music through a variety of sound and notational sources by
1. improvising eight-measure melodic and rhythmic phrases of increasing complexity;
F: Improvise 16 measure melodic and rhythmic phrases.
B: Improvise 4 measure melodic and rhythmic phrases.
2. composing eight-measure melodies and rhythms; and
F: Composes 16 measure melodies and rhythms
