Recently and with the emergence of information and communication technologies,

information become widely in spread in which this spread caused some serious troubles for
the researchers and they fall in plagiarism phenomenon. Therefore, to fix this problem of
stilling someone else work, research methodology experts have provided different ways and
tips for avoiding it including citing quotes, paraphrasing, and summarizing the original works.

First and foremost, the primary option that can a researcher do to avoid plagiarism is using
and adapting scholars and experts’ quotations in the subject matter. Methodologically
speaking, the operation of citing quotes does not stand randomly but has to follow and to be
guided by specific scientific rules. In this concern, citation styles such as APA, MLA,
Chicago, and others have been introduced to facilitate and organize this process. Considering
this fact, citing quotes can safe and valuate the researcher claims in the way it refers to the
author name, year of publication, and the page number from which the quote was taken. In
addition, it leaves the reader no space for any doubt and the researcher any gap for criticism.
However, citing quotes is not the only option a researcher can use to escape plagiarism.
In like manner, paraphrasing can a second option for the researcher to utilize for solving
plagiarism issue. In details, it refers to rewriting and restating the quoted statement in
different words with the attention of saving and conserving the core of the delivered meaning
and message. In fact and similar to quotes, paraphrasing requires certain details to be
respected involving the quotation length, the author’s name, the year, and in some styles the
page number. On the other hand, it frees the researchers to use their own lexis without
messing with the conveyed message and the required meaning. Consequently and along with
its effect in avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing can show the researcher mastery on his/her
research materials; and provide the reader with a clear, simple, and unambiguous explanation
particular ideas given in an expert quote. Last but not least and in the light of leaving more
free space for the researchers to express their understanding of a given quote, there is one
more option for them to use and apply.

Together with the previous mentioned ways, the researcher has the green light for
summarizing someone else work or quote instead of stilling directly its essential meaning and
adopting it into his/her own actual work. By its side, summarizing operation follow certain
academic procedures. First, in draft, it is required to set the quotation statement and
paraphrase it. Then, the researcher can actually summarize the paraphrased statement saving
the meaning and mentioning the author’s name and year of publication; but minimizing its
length into commonly accepted percentage. Furthermore, beside the authenticity it provides,
this option facilitate delivering and conveying long quotes and works ideas keeping the spot
on the main concern of the researcher; and prove his/her competence and ability in
manipulating the research source to fit only its aims and objectives.

Overall and as has been noted above, in the way they offer reader with valid and credible
resources and close the doors for any criticism or literary accountability, all of citing quote,
paraphrasing, and summarizing are available ways for researchers to rely on and avoid
plagiarism. Nevertheless, plagiarism does not meaning stilling someone else work only but
stilling the time, effort, and the potential he/she expend for it. Therefore, there is an
immediate and urgent need for applying the right and legal punishments to prevent any
unserious and invalid works in the future.
