Part C: Sustainability Cross Curriculum Priority (250 words)

“Through the cross-curriculum priority of Sustainability, students develop knowledge, skills,

values and world views necessary to contribute more sustainable patterns of living for the

future” (ACARA, n.d). Sustainability is a cross-curriculum priority that should be connected

and incorporated across various learning areas, as such is the case is my design brief. My

design brief incorporates the priority of Sustainability into learning areas such as Science

specifically year 6 physical sciences; ‘Electrical energy can be transferred and transformed

in electrical circuits and can be generated from a range of sources (ACSSU097)’ (SCASA,

2014). As well as Science I am able to incorporate my design brief into learning areas such as

English (ACELY1709).

Sustainability as a cross curriculum priority has been developed around the key concepts of

systems, world views and futures. When considering my design brief, I see a clear clink with

the key concept of futures particularly OI.8 ‘Designing action for sustainability requires an

evaluation of past practices, the assessment of scientific and technological developments, and

balanced judgements based on projected future economic, social and environmental impacts’

(ACARA, n.d). My design brief also shows strong links to OI.9 ‘Sustainable futures result

from actions designed to preserve and/or restore the quality and uniqueness of environments’

(ACARA, n.d). These are links I feel passionate about and wish to incorporate into student

learning through my design brief.

Finally, when reflecting on my design brief, I see clear links to the Sustainable Development

Goals. Goal 7 ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’, Goal 11 ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’

and Goal 13 ‘Climate Action’ (United Nations, n.d) are all goals that I believe are present

throughout my design brief. Incorporating these goals into my students will go along way in

creating a more sustainable future.
