Today, global business environment is constantly changing. Business

organizations are therefore, caused to change accordingly in adjustment to

the underlying changes. These changes require the business managers to

come up with appropriate strategies to counter the changes. Organizational

managers usually use different strategies in approaching the prevailing

change in their business environment (Stavros, Torres and Cooperrider,

2018). Appreciative inquiry is one of the models that business managers

normally use to approach a change in the organization. The appreciative

inquiry is one of the positive change approach mechanisms in an

organization towards development and group work. The model entails its

own paradigm, methodology and initiatives. It evaluates critically the areas

in which the organization is doing well and provides the various possible

ways that can be included to ensure that the company continuous to do

better. This model of change approach in an organization serves to fill in

the gaps left by other approaches such as the deficit model and strength-

based model. This paper therefore, chooses to articulate appreciative

inquiry model as an approach to organizational change.

Context of the Inquiry

An appreciative inquiry majors on the best areas in which the

organization is doing well. In order for an organization to compete its

competitors effectively and efficiently, the management of any organization

must analyze their weaknesses and strengths. This will enable them to

know where to adjust and how to adjust. The knowledge of appreciative

inquiry can be applied in a learning institution to help the heads achieve

their targets and goals as an organization. Intra-competition and extra

competitions normally make learning organizations to find more effective

and efficient ways of approaching the changes. This paper determines the

application of appreciative inquiry model in a school setting organization.

The discussion will be narrowed down to a specific school called Green View

High School situated at the epicenter of North Carolina. Green View High

school provides education to the students at high level of education in North

Carolina in the United States. The school is a private learning institution

using the curriculum stipulated by the government of the United States.

Like other organizations, Green View High school works in determination to

compete its counterparts.

Usually, parents would only want good, effective and efficient

learning institution for their children. Therefore, it is the responsibility of

the school organization to come up with their unique strategies and

approaches to the prevailing organizational changes. The organizational

changes may include the adjustment in the use of integrated technology in

the teaching pedagogy among others. Consequently, a school not be doing

quite well on the integration of technology in education as other learning

organizations. Alternatively, the learning organization might be advantaged

by such adjustment suppose they had implanted the integrated technology

in their activities. In the case of the later phenomenon, the school

organization management should apply the appreciative inquiry to

determine how to continue being ahead in that particular sector (Lewis,

Cantore and Passmore, 2016). This will enable them attract more learners

since most of the learners today prefer and enjoys a learning supported by

information technology.

Green View High school comprise of a population of over one

thousand five hundred pupils, sixty teachers, and fifty support staffs. The

school is highly preferred by most parents as it prioritizes learners’ needs.

Moreover, it is updated to the emerging educational changes such as a

change in pedagogical approach and techniques involving IT gadgets. The

school therefore, needs to find out on how they can maintain their core

status of satisfying their clients’ needs. Besides, the school also works hard

to identify other areas they doing well than other schools so that they can

improve to effectively compete their competitors. The Green View High

school is also known to be a center of excellence by the community and

society of North Carolina. This excellence can be attributed to collaborative

work between the school management, teachers, students, and parents.

The parents of learners in this school are more cooperative than it is

experienced in the other institutions. When there is discipline in any

learning organization, the results automatically must go up. Since most

parents would want their children to excel academically, they will always

seek for admission in the school. The discipline is contributed to by the

incorporation of parents in the school issues hence they forming close

partners of the teachers (Cooperrider and Whitney, 2016). Appreciative

inquiry model is more suitable in scrutinizing and analyzing organizations

like this school of Green View High who have identified their strengths.

Using the appreciative inquiry model to approach a specific change in an

organization provides the school with reliable information of the necessary

steps of action.

Mission or Purpose of the Organization

The school, Green View is known for its effective and efficient results

it produces. An implication of this is shown by the competitiveness of the

most learners graduating from the institution. This success can be tied to

its well laid mission to everyone who come across it. The mission of the

school centralizes on the cultivation of talents and innovations towards

meeting the technological advancement in the world. On complying to the

mission, the school is majorly based on technological skills. This is

evidenced on the approach they give to learning activities, which are almost

technology sensitive.

Relationship of Project to Learner Goals

This project therefore, provides learners with sufficient knowledge on

the identification of best schools to attend in completion of their career

wishes. Most learners always wish to be technologically competitive and

this is what centralizes the Green View High school.

Best of “What Is”

The school has been doing very well in producing technologically

capable students. Their learners are always computer proficient and this

has given them a chance higher than their competitors (Cooperrider and

Srivastva, 2017). Secondly, the school is known by high level of discipline

observed in their learners in the society. Most of the graduated candidates

of the Green View High school have been recognized to be very disciplined.

This state of discipline is attached to the fact that the school has been able

to unite parents, teachers, and learners. Lastly, the school is known for

doing well in the courses offered to them by the state and does better in

the universities and colleges as compared to others.

The following are some of the themes that are most outstanding from

the school activities and operations.

The main affirmative topics coming out more vividly from the

appreciative inquiry model of the school organization includes the

cultivation of discipline in students. Promotion of technological skills in

learners, teachers, and parents. Lastly, stressing on the academic

excellence of the learners and teachers.

The school is portrayed as an organization highly determined to

achieving their goals. Green View High school produces high performing

candidates to the society and even in the universities and colleges. One can

therefore, vividly deduce that discipline is the core source of success to any

thriving organization. Besides, the ability to unite the parties involved in

the organizational activities has been evidenced to be the sources of

prosperity.
