Proper School Management

It is a necessity in every school to have systems that enable the staffs and students

to work effectively together. This systems help create and provide conditions, goals and effective

processes to effectively communicate the ground rules.

According to Wooi, (2019) “School management refers to the administration of a school

to provide the condition for staff, teachers and students to work in most efficient way possible,

maximizing the utilization of available resources.” With the emergence of School-Based

Management (SBM), the government gives schools more responsibilities and provides them with

greater power or right for the decision-making of their daily operations, resources, management

and planning for the betterment of the schools. Through this, the use of funds must be more

transparent to the public and the schools must be accountable for all the decisions that they are

going to take.

Lack of Adequate School Facilities Such as Laboratories and Libraries

According to the Educational Facilities Manual, (2010) “An educational facilities program

is basically a comprehensively planned set of decisions for action which are directed at the

achievement of specific goals within specified time frames. It shall be an integral part of the total

educational program of the school.

Furthermore, the program shall be planned within the framework of well-defined

educational objectives. Teachers, supervisors, architects, engineers, etc., under the leadership of

the school administrator, shall cooperatively undertake it. This is to draw out the best knowledge

and thinking of many groups and individuals who can contribute valuably the formulation of a

comprehensive and sound educational facilities program.” This could mean that the Philippine
Government, specifically the Department of Education (DepEd) has entrusted the task of providing

facilities to the school administrators and the effectiveness of the proposed facilities depends on

the decision of the school administrators.

Therefore, school facilities such as laboratories and libraries do not only serve as a room

for learning but can also have a great impact for both students and teachers. School facilities can

contribute to the way how a student behaves and can also play a significant role in bringing them

a better engagement, learning and academic performance. Whereas, school facilities affect the

commitment and effort of teachers with respect to their way of teaching.

Lack of Appropriate Learning Environment

According to the Department of Education Secretary, Leonor Briones, DepEd is currently

increasing efforts to deliver quality, accessible, relevant and liberating education. As they continue

to pivot from access to quality, the DepEd is also reviewing curriculum and developing learning

resources.

With regards to this, having Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week

greatly contributes to the existence of a conducive learning environment. Because of this, every

school has the opportunity to prepare and create a clean and organized environment that can result

to a pleasant atmosphere for students.

* Lack of advanced collaborative method of instruction and learning

According to Garcia, University of the East Program Head, inquiry-based teaching has been

implemented and promoted together with the recently implemented curriculum reforms.

Collaborative/cooperative learning among students to students and teachers to students is highly

recommended for every schools, however, inquiry-based teaching faces three different challenges,

lack of support, training and availability of inquiry based materials.

implementation requires every teacher to have their training on different trainings and seminars

for furthur development of the said program.
